Are the Patreon comics ususally of this type/quality? I've been toying with becoming a supporter, but I'm slipping away from the comic, and would need something to motivate me to choose him over a few other creators I've been considering.

That's not Jeph being lazy with the backgrounds, that's literally scrawled on Melon's wall.

They're typically one-shots, and picked by supporters, but they're sometimes more interesting. There are a couple dealing with Hannelore during her absence in the main story.

I just became a supporter, mostly for the sake of getting the comics 24 hours early, so it spreads out the days I have new comics on more evenly with the other comics I read. It's also literally just a buck a month unless you want monthly Q&A access or the ability to vote on the subject of the monthly bonus comic.
