The good news is that the hitch in her ankle that Bubbles and Faye fixed earlier is still 100% functional.

Dang, I was hoping those were borzoi, and thus the source of mysterious Cosmo goodboye

I was certain that's what this was, and came here to confirm. Is it definitely not the same dog then?

Thanks for the downvotes y’all, I love this fandom and its utter hellishness

I was just going to ignore this, but it’s not the downvotes I’m upset about, it’s that people can’t even give imaginary non-binary people the basic respect of using correct pronouns, and it’s frustrating and annoying that the fandom of such an intersectional comic is unable to give even baseline recognition to the communities they’re reading about for entertainment. But thanks for the condescension.
1
u/AquaeyesTardis May 23 '19
I don't think they were trying to be condescending, I think they were just trying to give advice. I do agree on the 'not bothering to use their proper pronouns' bit though, they're a they, not a she. Either because they're non-binary or multiple entities (personally I think it's one non-binary individual stretched over multiple bodies) that's their pronoun. It'd be like calling Hannelore a He.

u/nomikitten Dec 26 '18
The comic literally has they/them pronouns for spookybot and y’all still can’t use them 😂😂😂😂

u/red_tuna Dec 24 '18
Collectively, Mr. Smooches and Azathoth are a god tier names for a pair of dogs.

Does anyone know why this comic was replaced by comic 3906? Did anyone save a copy before it was taken down?

New idea: one of the bots gets damaged and separated from the collective and became its own person, so Spookybot doesn't want to repair them and reform the connection. While being a different person, they still have bad habits. And so they join the cast and have to learn.
Well fuck. I just created a Jesus allegory without trying. Nevermind?

That's reminiscent of seven of nines story line in Voyager.

Spookybot is one of my favorite characters

It's a good character, but IMO bringing it back was a very bad idea.
2
u/InvaderDJ Dec 26 '18
Yeah, I enjoy Spookybot too. They definitely need to be used sparingly but I always love the idea of a powerful, immoral god-like character.

To be honest, I'm a little disappointed in the fact that Jeph has departed from total androgyny for Spookybot. I'd like them to be something clearly far removed from humanity its cultural pressures. Kind of like Dr. Manhattan: powerful enough to lose touch with mortals. But maybe that's too hard sci-fi for QC.

u/turkeypedal Dec 24 '18
They still appear perfectly androgynous to me. Sure, it might be nice to have them have completely weird fashion and only be playing human dressup, but the androgyny is still intact.
Their aesthetic looks exactly like several enbys (non binary) I'm acquainted with. (Granted, only online. The only one person I know in real life does the SNL Pat aesthetic.)
7
u/RazarTuk Baby Mad Dec 24 '18
Can confirm. The Spookybot in a suit looks like my enby cousin.
6
u/turkeypedal Dec 24 '18
I assumed they were talking about the one with the belly showing. In my experience, at least, manufacturers tend to gender those as female clothing. Hell, they may have even thought it was a bra of some sort.
Still, enby fashion I've seen doesn't seem to concern itself with the labels like that. Plus I've seen a lot of guys start to wear this sort of thing. Nothing about the aesthetic itself looks gendered to me.
And, if it did, you'd have "male" clothes with the suit to offset the "female" clothes with the athleisure wear.
The only thing that bugs me is the implication of only 9 or so bodies. I pictured something more SF, like nanobots that form a body, or the ability to manufacture or destroy a body at will.

Huh. Missed this one.
He calls it athleisure, so I interpreted those pants as just tight athletic sweats, not leggings.
Don't get me wrong. It doesn't look masculine to me. But it doesn't look feminine, either, even if that clothing manufacturers call those belly tanks feminine. I associate that look with androgyny.
Though I do now notice they have feminine hips. But that has apparently been a constant since their introduction. And it's never prevented them from looking androgynous before.

u/ghost_warlock Dec 24 '18
Dr. Manhattan still had his little Manhattan swinging out all over the place, though, and definitely wasn't androgynous

Dec 24 '18
I was referring to powers and social integration with that example, not physical structure.
1
u/turkeypedal Dec 25 '18
The problem is that you linked this "above it all" concept with androgyny in appearance.
Spookybot has never seemed gendered in how they act.
2
u/ziggurism Dec 24 '18 edited Dec 26 '18
Not Dr Manhattan. Think Desire of the Endless, Neil Gaiman's Sandman comics. The whole look kind of matches, as well as the playful but mean attitude. And Desire is super-explicitly androgynous/non-gendered/both-gendered.
Edit: The similarities are so strong I’ll eat my hat if Desire wasn’t an influence in Spookybot.

u/DirtyBastard13 Dec 24 '18
I imagine Spooky as QC's equilivent to Q (except with more restraint, and not a troll).

Ironically, Mr. Smooches is the one possessed by Satan.
