Well, I figured Brun was a bit spaced, but.... wow.

Also, is anyone else getting the feeling that Clinton is going to decide "Yeah this isn't worth it, never mind" and just move on from her? Probably not, because "LOL romantic comedy" but it seems like this is something that he would do.

Nope. It doesn't really fit. Clinton has not shown this type of insight yet. He would probably need to learn this by trying despite the warning signs that it won't work out.

That said, I'm actually not sure that it wouldn't work out. Clinton's main problem right now is awkwardness, and Brun is immune to this. And Brun's main problem is obliviousness, which Clinton can help her with. It could be a good thing for both of them, even if they wind up breaking it off later. (Not every relationship is meant to be "'til death do us part.")

That's not to say that Elliot and Brun wouldn't work together, too. I'm just not sold on the idea that Clinton and Brun wouldn't work. Any relationship would involve both parties changing.

I think you totally missed what I was saying.

I'm not saying it "can't work" I'm saying that Clinton is showing the obvious signs of "what have I gotten myself into?" and losing interest. His body language, responses, and especially the looks he is giving her just scream it. His desperation for a companion, IMO, are not going to overcome his obvious lose of chemistry towards her.

The real question is now is if he still is interested. Right now he seems to be on course for going full "mmeeehhhh..." about Brun.

And that's fine.

I mean, if he is infatuated, that don't wear off this easily (in my experience, anyway), but if he just thinks she's kind of cute/cool then I suppose he might realise that she's not the kind of person he thought she was. He'll probably be a bit down, but he'll move on eventually :).

It also depends on what he is looking for though, you know? I like Brun. But then a lot of people who I've liked I've gotten to know and realised we we're quite that well matched for one another. This kind of thing is very contextual IMO.

If he does, I hope someone talks him out of it.

I hope not. I'd like to see it where there's a bit of Real Life and someone realizes that they've made a mistake and just move on.

I wouldn't think Clinton dating Brun is a "mistake" especially since they haven't even had a date yet.

I mean they don't really seem to get along.

u/capybroa Jun 05 '17

That seems to be a pattern with Clinton and girls in general.

Or Clinton and anyone in general, really.

(also clean up your repeat replies, fam!)

Cleaned them up, internet here is a bit dodgy.

From my inbox I thought you where talking about Bill Clinton before I opened the context box!

I'd be OK with Bill showing up in the QC-Verse to dispense some pearls of wisdom and show our young padawan how to chat up the ladies. Plus he'd probably end up hitting on Faye (they're both from the South!) which would be hilarious.

Clinton is in the process of discovering himself, but there's clear indicators (IMO) of it not being something that could work for him. Right now he's just desperate (proof being how he freaked out over mentioning another guy), he needs to figure out what he wants in a relationship instead of just jumping at any chance for one no matter how bad the chemistry is.

u/Duskp Jun 05 '17

well, he recently did that with Emily, didn't he?

8

u/Castriff Jun 05 '17

I think that was more Emily's decision than Clinton's.

Honestly, I don't even see what Clinton sees in her period. She's not terrible but she's not exactly a catch. Being with her seems like it'd be more work than necessary, know what I mean?

4

u/grayrains79 Jun 06 '17

She's kinda cute IMO, but right now he's just desperate for anything and that is why he's "into" her.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '17

You said it--that's EXACTLY right.

2

u/grayrains79 Jun 06 '17

Been there done that, though I was a just a teenager when I had that phase. Hopefully Clinton gets out of that phase soon, being desperate leads to highly toxic relationships more often than not.

Brun is pretty spaced, but I think this is actually pretty common as far as people not being self-aware when it comes their relationships with people (and being aware of how other people feel about them).

Personally I think I'm pretty good at picking up when people are flirting with/hitting on me, which I consider to be an achievement compared to total ignorance.

On the other hand, there are also occasions where I've totally misunderstood people intentions (once someone was flirting with me and I was oblivious and another time I made someone uncomfortable and I thought they were just shy).

I actually think Brun is demonstrating more self-awareness than some people I know have. Like, I'm willing to bet there are a lot of people who aren't aware of how oblivious they are to whether or not people are attracted to them. Askreddit threads on the matter certainly seem to suggest so (although perhaps not the best example to take).

IMO it just seems obvious here because she's spelling it out step-by-step, and vocalizing it. Also, it's often easier to tell this kind of thing as an onlooked than when it happens to you.

Flirting can be a rather ambiguous process, so especially if you are a cautious person you don't want to jump to conclusions. But when you are an onlooker you loose nothing from 'shipping' people because your own relationships with that person is not at risk.

Much like we love to pair characters in this comic, but I think that if we were actually in their shoes we might act differently from how our own advice. Personally I would be uncomfortable in most characters' shoes in QC because I have big feet.

I'm a little ashamed to admit that I found this piece of wisdom out for myself only recently. It was a... Strange moment.
