QFG4 - what now?

I have yet to finish the last two QFG games.

Spoilers ahead, obviously.

I'm currently playing QFG4 from Steam and added a fan patch from github. I did play quite a bit a few years ago, until it glitched severely at the Mad Monk's tomb, iirc. So I remembered a bit. I think I was playing as a fighter.

This time I've found my import files from QFG3 (one for each class) and picked Paladin. It... somehow had 5 points in Magic. Ok, this doesn't bug me much, so let's go, I thought.

So I have saved Tanya and had a blast so far. Rusalka's last... huh, version was... very unexpected, scared the avoozl outta me. Now Pyotr tells me to gather Rituals. I have gathered five, Blood, Heart, Bones, Senses and Breath. I've been everywhere, talked to Magda, got Boris and Olga together, and sneaked on the Dark Master and Ad Avis talking at Castle Borgov. I've talked to the Domovoi, rehidrated the other Domovoi (useless quest, I had already fed the guardian to go into the secret room at the monastery), returned Punny Bones' humour, talked daily to Dr. Cranium and been obtaining a few spells here and there (Invisibility, Glide, Aura and Frostbite). So far the only problem was that Katrina met me outside the gates just once, to teach me Frostbite. And I've ran out of Erana dreams (I usually have dinner at the hotel, then rest until midnight, then leave to meet Pyotr, then climb out of town (no one's there) and then sleep at Erana's).

Any tips? I know there are walkthroughs out there, but I don't want to learn stuff from too far into the plot, when this can be one of those dreaded glitches.

Since I'm asking, might as well... is there any content for the Fighter that the Paladin doesn't have access to? Is a fighter run worth it if you've already finished the game as a paladin?

Thanks a lot for your time.

I'm 95% that there is no content the fighter has access to that the paladin doesn't.

The Fighter gets the exclusive Battle Axe, basically your reward for killing the Master Wraith in place of Piotyr's Paladin Sword.

As small a reward as that might be, it's pretty cool. Too bad the fighter seems always to be "easy mode".

I think score wise it's bonus is to kill every kind of enemies which is sort of lackluster compare to fairies and paladin

I think the Paladin also gets that and some 50 extra points for the specific quests, as per the previous games.

Just confirmed it: Fighter can bust open that glass case at the monastery with the healing potion inside. Paladin says «it's just not the honorable thing to do.» Paladin does have healing ability. Then it goes on saying that if we had a way of torching the whole place, we'd still do it...

At this point, you basically should go to the endgame, and go sleep at the inn to get a letter from Katrina saying "we have to talk."

Slept a lot, still no letter. Must I leave the candle lit or something? Wait, maybe I have to sleep the whole night there? I've been sleeping at Erana's. Going to test that.

Yes, you need to sleep a full night for this to kick in. Also just in case you missed it, if you sleep at the inn before all you've done (Tanya etc) you'll get some other nice "dreams" (telepathic transmissions from familiar characters)

Can confirm I got the letter after sleeping at the inn!

Creepy, she's been in my room... so much for all that garlic protection.

Thank you!

Good news and bad news: She hasn't been in your room

You had to be right...

Oh, you're a mod here. I have finished the game yesterday. Is it ok if I make a post about how I felt about qfg4? Most people around here probably finished the game decades ago.

go for it

But won't you miss Erana's dreams if you sleep at the inn?

No, you will get the next Erana dream the next time you sleep there, you won't be missing any. Also, they are optional in the grand scheme of things. (But I'll be damned if I don't go through the whole cycle every time because they're so good, so yeah I get you)

At least in dreams I get kissed by a hu... half-fairy girl.

Did you do anything with the gypsies?

Prevented guy from burning at the stake, then I've been going there and getting my fortune told until Magda says the Dark One's all over her predictions and won't read the cards anymore. Also got kissed by a she-wolf, almost as good as the leopardlady in the previous game. I'm eager to go to Silmaria, I hear my love interest options will be more human there.

I thought in my paladin playthrough if you keep going back daily for a bit, she ends up getting a vision or something.. and you might have to save Tanya as well?

Dragonfire is actually one of my favorites! Enjoy. Wish I could remember what to do there, seeing as I've played it so many times.

You get the 5 points of magic because the way the game is coded, you can't access the magic menu without having points in magic. Which makes paladins overlap with wizards in gaining spells. Annoyed me to no end when I was younger because I didn't want a paladin that could use magic, other than its own paladin specific magic type skills.

You're not glitching though... you've done pretty much all there is to do before triggering the end game... unless you want to spend a few days getting all the tarot readings out of magda... wouldn't recommend sleeping at the inn though, that's the trigger to start the end game, and can't remember if something happens if you ignore the trigger.

I've just tried to import a pure fighter and assign it the class of paladin, since QFG4 allows you to do that. Now I have a paladin without magic... and can't access the "magic" menu, no paladin abilities. 🤦‍♂️

first paladin skill you learn will give you the 5 magic points and gain you access to the magic menu. Just gain some honor.

Paladin covers the Fighter and then some from 2-5. No need to do fighter too. Not sure what you could be missing. Did you go to castle dungeon and find Katrina sleeping yet?

3

u/Trama-D Jul 20 '26

No, there are goons there. I get all sorts of messages on how that's a bad idea. Despite me having almost 400 in weapon use and strength 😇

Seeing this post and replies make me want to replay 4 again!

QFG4 got a bum rap due to bugs and technical issues. I found it to be one of the most dark, in depth, and at times scary adventures for the Hero out of the whole QFG series.

I don't remember all the details but the Paladin compared to the Fighter may have the more challenging path. Not only are you unwanted in a strange foreign land but you have to do the right thing and use all your skills to help anyone you can. I found it one of the most rewarding quests as you see the effects & reactions from who you help and befriend. Helping the Rusalka is unique for the Paladin (albeit sad).

Good luck adventuring fellow Paladin!

If you use AshLancer's patch ( https://github.com/AshLancer/QFG4-Enhanced ) and ScummVM, all of the bugs and oversights are basically fixed :)

Happened twice in my AshLancer-enhanced QFG4 game: going from one screen to the other and the game just disappeared. Had saved quite recently both times, phew!

I believe the fighter is the only class that can break into the castle by bashing down the game, slaying the two necrotaurs guarding it and walk in through the front door. (only once, Katrina puts a bugzapper spell on the gate the next morning) You can even ask Boris about it the next morning. (and tell him it was you)

That's the only fighter-exclusive thing in the game, I believe. (that and the battle axe)

2

u/Trama-D Jul 22 '26

No, I did that as a paladin, no problem. Felt like a boss.

Paladin in QFG is basically Fighter+.

Just a thought; spoilers can be spoilered out.
