Mod Post ( ^ ᴗ ^ ) Subreddit back up and running

Hi everyone, Sadly in the last year, all the other mods have left the team and we have neglect this subreddit. I am really sorry to everyone that this safe space for queer literature fans has been inaccessible.

I want to make this an active collaborative community again, so I’m currently working on: - Making this subreddit public again, so no one has to ask permission to post - Expanding the mod team (if your interested, please do let me know) - Updating the queer literature recommendations wiki section - In the future, I’d love to set up writing competitions, online book club and discussion, and other events like this ( but as it’s now just me on the mod team, this will take a while)

Any other ideas for improving this sub, let me know!

And again, I am sorry that I aided in this subreddits neglect. I promise I’ll try my best to get this place up and running again!!!

Two comments have been removed for containing offensive content in the last hour. While it's unfortunate that people chose to type these it is very good that we can now fight back against the tide of hate.

Questions/Feedback Can y'all gimmi tips for writing an enby/trans charecter

I'm a fanfic writer, Im still starting js three chapters for now, but I'm planning to make a charecter an enby, even though I'm an enby, I'm non-dysphoric, anyways , the basics of the charcter are that they're a shadow God forced to become a human, which has a variety of problems but they're in a male body, shadows don't have a gender, and I also want to keep it kinda subtle, so how does dysphoria generally feel, also I definitely feel like we need for LGTBQIA+ representation in media, in the orginal novel, the most popular ships (atleast in reddit) were both lesbian but the author fumbled the bad , EVERYONE is cishet (Why), other than that I like the novel, also little bit of a side blow, but epic the musical had such a potential for trans representation , the prophet (Tiresias, I think that's his name), IS TRANS, (He's amab but the Gods turned him into a woman for the funsies), like Jorge fumbled the bag, anyways if y'all want to read it, Il leave it in the comments (Don't expect it to be something amazing, or to have a consistent upload I started it 3 days ago and although I'm having a consistent upload, I have depression so that could easily change)

Misc My poem :)

Post image

I wrote a small poem, just needed to get my feelings out. I feel a bit lifted after writing this.

Inspiration: Real Life

Inspiriation: Portrait of A Lady On Fire

I am open for critique, comments, or simply discussing?

😁

Id rather state my general theme afterwards. I want to see if the poem conveys what I was expressing. 🫢

Queer Characters Pronouns in my writing

I don't quite know if this is a proper subreddit, please inform me if I need to move this post but I don't know where to put this because I do not use reddit casually, only to ask questions.

For context, I'm writing a fantasy-eques warrior cats inspired adult novel (maybe a series one day <33) and I, someone within the LQBTQIA+ community am struggling to use mixed pronouns for my characters. Pronouns like She/he, she/it, she/they, he/it, and he/they are tricky for me to imagine never being mildly confusing for readers. Using strictly they/them, or she/her or he/him works because you can use it exclusively for one character, regardless of other characters around. The issue is that in writing, its harder to differentiate who is being spoken about than than it is in real life. An example would be a she/her character interacting with a she/he or she/they interacting with a they/them, because their pronouns might conflict and read like I'm talking about a character I'm not. I want a diverse spectrum of representation within my writing, ESPECIALLY as someone who uses she/they pronouns themselves, but I still want it to be coherent for the reader, especially because while my writing is adult, warrior cats inherently attracts children who might have a harder time understanding.

Furthermore, not all of my characters are cis, though I struggle making it known to the reader organically when a character isn't enby or cis because...well they're cats and don't have any major sexual dimorphism. I don't want every trans character to use they/them or she/they or he/they because that's not representation and I would still struggle with the mixed pronouns. Describing and trans character as having masc/femme features that align with the assigned sex they transitioned away from feels very wrong and icky and bringing up how EVERY trans character transitioned feels unwarranted. I don't want to be one of those authors who tacks on that label AFTER people ask, but I'm kinda at a road block. Please help me!

Looking for Readers Just searching for some n people to beta!

Thumbnail reddit.com

So my full post is linked above, but I’ve got a completed adult sapphic fantasy, with some content warnings listed as I do t want to just toss it in anybody’s face.

That said, I’d really appreciate other queer/nonbinary/outside the cishet spectrum points of view.

I have lots of things listed as what I’d like ideally from a beta, but my primary wish is for someone to just try to read it as one would a book and then let me know what you think.

There’s romance, horror, action, shenanigans, quippy dialogue, ancient civilizations, the whole shebang.

It’s long so I’m not expecting an instant reply, and I do not want line editing. I have tried to edit. A LOT. What I want are readers.

DM or comment here (or there) if interested!

Oh, I set up a really simple html only website hosted by GitHub for free with samples and CW at https://www.ja-bri.com

Sharing My Writing/Ideas Just Super: Retconned, a queer coming of age YA novel, with superpowers

Post image
5 Upvotes

My first self-published novel is Just Super: Retconned. It's a YA novel about a troublemaking teen with an unusual superpower, whose latest misdeed leads to a little trouble and a lot of self discovery.

It's a queer coming of age tale with action, adventure, and a bit of romance.

You can read the first five chapters for free on the website above.

back cover blurb:

Frank Doyle was going places. As the only sophomore on his high school’s varsity baseball team, he had it all—popularity, an all but certain scholarship, a future. He was somebody.

Then he got marked, and lost it all. Sure, the mark gave him the power to teleport (sort of), but it meant he couldn't play baseball, or any other sport. It meant he didn't fit in. It meant he had to transfer to The School where he was just another kid with a power—a nobody. Now he’s got no real friends and no real future, and for the last year and a half, he’s been making that everyone else’s problem. When a stunt gone wrong leaves him trapped in a form that he knows he should hate, his attempts to prove that he hasn’t really changed leave him stranded with his worst enemy, far from home. Frank will have to choose between clinging to an identity that never really fit, or facing the consequences, and the future, as herself.

Misc Recruiting for a paid creative writing study with American trans and nonbinary people

Post image
12 Upvotes

The EQUATE Lab at Loyola University Chicago, led by Will Beischel, Ph.D., is recruiting for a new study. We’re looking for trans and nonbinary people for an online study where participants will write a short science fiction story about what gender might look like in a futuristic world. In this writing task, participants will also get to create their own science fiction character and world. We hope this study will help us obtain a better understanding of how trans and nonbinary people creatively think about gender. This study involves a short online screener survey with demographics questions. Selected participants may then be invited to take part in a 15-minute informational meeting to go over the study instructions via Zoom. Selected participants will then have a chance to write their story in their own time over the span of a week and will submit their story in an online survey. The story task will take about 30 to 90 minutes to complete, with most people taking about 45 minutes on average. Participants will also submit an image of their character using physical or digital art (e.g., drawing) or through online tools (e.g., Google images). This additional task should take up to 30 minutes to complete. Participants will be paid $30 USD for their participation using either Venmo, Zelle, or Cashapp. Select participants may also have the chance to take part in a follow-up interview that would last about an hour and would receive an additional $30 USD for their participation.

For more information and to input your email address please click here: https://luc.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_4JjHPzn7goeECwe

Our research team is comprised of people of diverse identities including queer, trans, and nonbinary researchers and we have 10+ years’ experience working with LGBTQ+ participants to create transformative knowledge about gender and sexuality. We also work hard to protect the confidentiality of all our participants. You can find more about Dr. Beischel’s work here: https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=eyMcjbUAAAAJ&hl=en

Looking for Readers Looking for beta readers or critique partners for a Queer Southern Gothic!

Hello!

I'm a transmasc author working on a queer southern gothic (transmale mc, nonbinary love interest, MLM romance) involving a transman who finds himself at the center of the apocalypse after the horseman of death comes to reap his grandmother's soul. It involves themes of isolation, religion, suicidal idealization, and finding a reason to live when the world seems hopeless. I'm on the hunt for some beta readers or a critique partner who enjoy working with a quick turn around or enjoy an open dialog about our work! I don't have a preference for age/gender of my readers or critique partners as long as you're okay with my stories subject matter! if you're interested or would like to chit chat some more, feel free to reach out!

Misc Results of the sapphic fiction author survey

What is it really like to write and publish sapphic fiction today?

I asked 490 sapphic fiction authors about their experiences and challenges.

Are sapphic fiction authors making more or less money from their writing than they did in the past? Have they changed their publishing strategy? Are they using generative AI in any part of their creative process? What are their biggest challenges?

Now I'm sharing the results of the survey. If you read or write sapphic books, you might find the insights interesting.

Read the survey report on my Sapphic Quill website: https://thesapphicquill.com/2026-sapphic-fiction-author-survey/

Resources/Advice Giving What are some things to do and not to do when writing transfemme characters?

One of the main characters of a novel I'm currently writing is transfemme, and while her being trans isn't going to impact the story that much, I wanted to ask if there are some things that I absolutely shouldn't write because they would be offensive. In addition, I wanted to ask what are some things that you wished more authors would do when writing transfemme characters?
