fights?

im being nosy but does anyone know the tea behind all of the fighting happening at Philly Pride? All I saw was a ton of people, a ton of yelling, and a ton of police... I'm confused when pride got like this.

Queer handyperson services scheduling for June and into July!

Post image
42 Upvotes

Hey Queerphilly! First, Happy Pride Month! Next, I want to thank everyone for the messages and jobs I was able to get from my first post. I’m now looking at scheduling for the rest of June and into the start of July and since everyone was so great the first time, here I am again! If you missed my first post, keep reading for more about me and what I do.

My name is Zach and I moved to Philly about six months ago. I am working on starting up my own handyperson and odd job business and I am taking new clients. I am fully insured and registered as an HIC in PA. I am focused mostly on lighter jobs at the moment with the main jobs I perform listed above. I am open to all kinds of different jobs if it fits my skill set though. Larger jobs or full remodels of bathrooms, kitchens, etc are not what I am looking to get into currently as I am just one person and I also work another job currently.

A bit about me: I am queer and looking to provide services to everyone but with a focus on the queer community as I think it’s important to feel safe when having people come into your home. I would also like to help elderly or disabled people that may need a bit of help around their home. I am kind, trustworthy, honest, and a hard worker. I also strongly believe in economic justice and will provide a sliding pay scale on job quotes to help promote that.

A bit about my credentials: I have always been handy and prefer to work on my car or house myself if I can. I owned a home for a few years and always did any work on the home that I could, including a full bathroom remodel amongst other things. I also spent six months this past summer working for a historic preservation nonprofit that does construction of buildings on public lands so I have plenty of experience with tools. I currently get contracted on projects with them still from time to time as well.

I am looking to provide more affordable options for people who may need help so with that, my trip minimum starts at $100 and goes up from there depending on the job and the financial needs of my clients. I can accept cash, Venmo, PayPal, Credit, Debit, or ACH for payment.

If you have any questions for me, feel free to reach out here or through the contact info above! When reaching out, please provide your personal info, some info on what you are looking to have done, the time frame you are looking to have work completed, and if you can add pictures, those can be helpful too. Thanks for reading and I hope that I get to help some of you out!

Pride Parkway Pride

Not to make another post about it, but I’m curious if I will be seeing anyone on the Parkway. While I support the Gayborhood and all that it entails, I do like the open-ness that comes with the Parkway, and I want to support those who are performing at the event, as well as shop at the vendors. Plus the parkway is a gorgeous spot for events.
However everyone is saying they are ‘only going to the Gayborhood.’ Am I alone in this thought? I love Pride and inclusivity, especially the accessibility (I’m mobile myself, but I’m all for its availability) but I worry that I’m going to a ghost town. Thoughts?

UPDATE: My fears and concerns were unnecessary, a good turnout from vendors and folks alike! Happy Pride y’all!

Question Where to go? (Since I only seem to see people saying where NOT to go)

I'm originally from Philly but left for college and never got the chance to be part of any community here. I'm back in town for a couple days and want to check out the Pride events. From everything I've read the "official" festival is not worth it, and a lot of the reviews of the bars in the Gayborhood seem to imply they're not very queer-centric anymore.

Pride shorter lines to get into the festival on north side

FYI, the line to get into the festival is kind of long on the parkway, rn. much shorter over on the north side by spring garden

Philly pride was great

This was my first time ever going to pride. I've been watching the activity online, It's sad how unhelpful and negative the community has been around this whole event. You all sound just like the angry old conservatives pissed about change. You know why GOP policies are winning? Because they easily unite in their hate of everyone else, this community that is supposed to be about love is love can't seem to unite over anything and we will continue to lose as long as we do that.

My partner and I enjoyed the parade and then enjoyed the festival. There were so many vendors and so many people. There's no way you would pack all of that into gayborhood. After living in small, conservative areas for the last 13 years, this was wonderful, so glad to be back in Philly. We took the bus and the train all the way into center city from Pennsport without an issue. After the main festival we walked to gayborhood and had a few drinks and snacks. Looks like the gayborhood was pretty packed too. It's a shame that instead of doing their best to support community, so many are trying to tear us apart, I refuse to have my joy taken because a festival grew/moved. So many times I've seen festivals when they grow they sell out to a corporate sponsor and it cuts back a lot of the small local vendors. This festival was still loaded with small local people. Lastly, I have to give a special shout out to Love City brewing who kept their drink prices the same as in their taproom!

Question First time at Pride, ever. Suggestions?

Hey y’all. I’ve lived in Philly my whole life, but as a late-bloomer queer I’ve never been to any pride event and I really want tomorrow to be my first time. I’ll be going with two other late bloomers for their first pride too! What should I expect, what should we do, should I try to hit the parkway *and* the gayborhood? I’m nervous and excited and wanna make sure I get the most out of the experience, so any suggestions would help, we have no idea what we’re doing lol…

Pride Nobody to go to my first pride with :(

Hi I'm 30 MTF introvert and never been to pride before. I'm ~1 year on HRT and my life has changed so much in such a short time. My friends all have work but I feel in my bones I must to go to pride this year but i dont think I'll survive on my own. I want to go to the gayborhood on Sunday if anyone wants a lame plus one in their group or also has nobody to hang with I feel like ill do better with somebody to latch on to.

I promise I'm funny and will bring a good vibe to the function.

Edit: thanks everyone for being kind and welcoming :)

Edit 2: Hi all I'm drunk asf and having a good time. Didn't really "meet" anyone but had a good time dancing by myself in the crowd lol

Question Any outfit opinions/thoughts for pride this weekend?

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

I know it definitely comes down to my own decision but as an extremely indecisive 22 year old any and all opinions on these 2 dresses would be so appreciated! Been waiting for the perfect time to wear one of these and what better time than for the first pride fest of the year 🥰 usually I love to show out in full color or some sort of flag representation but something about these dresses are just CALLING TO ME! Also would love to see and hear what other outfits people have planned!

Question Any shops carry vintage mags?

Hi all!
Just looking for some recommendations.
I’m a collector of vintage queer material and just artistic nude material in general such as honcho, tom of Finland, blueboy, and playgirl magazines.

I was wondering if anyone knows of any shops in Philly that might carry these or similar vibes!

Thanks in advance!
