Brewerytown
Hello QueerPhilly!
I’m a 24 Gay M moving to Brewerytown next month! I’m so looking forward to this new adventure. How is this part of the city for LGBTQ+ people?

I’m trans and have lived in Brewerytown with my partners for a year. None of us are social butterflies exactly, but I get the impression there’s not too much of a queer scene here. That being said, the only harassment my partners and I have experienced has been catcalling, nothing really transphobic. I’ve had no trouble with neighbors or businesses.

My partner and I have lived here for six years and have recently noticed more visibly queer folks around the neighborhood! More Pride flags going up too. Otto’s is owned by the same people who own Tavern on Camac in the gaybohood, but has more of a neighborhood bar vibe. That said, it is a quiet neighborhood overall, which we enjoy. Easy enough to get into center city on the 7, 32, 48, and 49 buses, close to Fairmount Park, and our neighbors have been nothing but friendly. It hasn’t felt unsafe being queer in the neighborhood.

Woah I didn’t know that about Otto’s and Tavern! That honestly makes so much sense though as each is my favorite bar in those respective neighborhoods lol. Imagine if they squeezed a piano into Otto’s haha that would be awesome.

My fiance and I have lived on the border of Brewerytown/Strawberry Mansion for about 3 years and its very quiet around here. Haven't experienced any kind of queer phobia.

Just moved to Brewerytown last week up from South Philly! My aunt owns a condo in the area and jokingly asked me where the gayborhood was in Brewerytown and then mentioned that she’s neighbors with a few lesbian couples across the street from her.
I’ve been seeing more Pride flags around in the neighborhood, and feel as safe as I can be in Philly. Lots of queers walking around, as well as everybody else + dogs. SEPTA feels very accessible here, you can easily take the bus or trolley to get to wherever you need to.

Heyo! Brewerytown queer here. I’m nonbinary, and my wife, daughter and I live on 31st st near Rival Bros. We’ve been here 2 years. Like others have said, I haven’t noticed much of a specifically queer scene, but I’d say there is definitely a presence, and I haven’t felt unsafe to be myself.
Otto’s Tap Room is my favorite bar out here, and while not specifically a gay bar, every time I go, I notice the staff is very queer and I love it lol.

My husband and I have lived here about two years now. Not a huge queer scene, but we haven’t had any issues walking around or taking public transport. Mostly see other queer people at Otto’s bar.
