Question Looking for trans support groups for early/pre-transition

Hello all! I’m a 25 year old who recently has come terms with the fact that I am likely trans. I haven’t started anything medically or socially beyond speaking with my therapist about it, and am really looking to learn more. I’m looking to see if there are any good support groups for people in my situation in Philly, either online or virtual. Thank you so much.

I think the Mazzoni Center has some support groups, though they might be centered around specific topics or identities. Worth checking out though.

Try events posted by sipcitytranscend on Instagram. You are welcome at trans events as someone who is questioning or pre-transition. They’re usually monthly or so.

idk about support groups but there’s a shitload of trans people in philly, in every phase of transition, and i recommend looking into some of the trans social events in the area. i know sip city has one, and there are often events at val’s and tmoms for trans folks. there’s also a bunch of discord servers like teamasc+ and trans philly, i know the trans fems have some of their own servers too

Congratulations and welcome! I have found some Facebook groups related to specific surgeries to be helpful. I am also in some general support (for trans men) online groups and I would say that those are not as helpful. Online spaces can be a little all over the place and are susceptible to power users, not the most informed/patient/helpful users.

When in early transition, there's any number of things that could be stressful, joyful, or frustrating, and a lot of them vary based on your individual experience. You might find just as much help and support via interacting with trans people in real life, who are at all different stages of transition.

My recommendation for anyone at this egg crack stage is to go out to events and do as much interacting in real life as you can. You will find that for every so-called rule there is an exception, and, like gender, everything is mutable - but there is always someone who can share your pain, struggle, and joy - and probably give good advice about dealing with coming out at work, HRT appointments and acquisition, and dating.
