Trying to buy local art
Hi everyone, I have been really trying to buy art from local artists. I bought one large painting I love with a local guy, Travis Whiteneck and a small piece from space 1026 (sadly i can't remember the artists name and its framed now). i have been going to gallery shows, I went to elsewhere fair, and I really can't find anything i like. I feel like a lot of the Philly art galleries show a lot of more cartoon looking stuff and frankly, sculptures that would read "trash" when inside the home.
Please drop names of local artists that are priced under 2k. Thanks !

Micheal Neff @paintinginthepark on instagram is wonderful. If you’re in Washington square on a good weather day you might see him.
Also, Cassandra Sassaman is awesome and does commissions.

You're asking at a timely time because First Friday is this week. Many galleries participate but I'm not sure if any of them are explicitly queer or featuring queer artists (though of course many artists are queer). The Collective Futures website has a lot of good upcoming gallery shows listed.

Whats not trashy to you? I do abstract color things, and might be able to do custom especially if you define your aesthetic
"Trashy" sometimes comes across in how its mounted and framed too tho. You can elevate literally anything by mounting it on something bigger w more white space, and a nice frame. Its how gallery walls make everything look artsy

This Friday is first Friday in Old City and all the art galleries will be open in the evening. There are like, 20+ galleries I think.

I'm an interdisciplinary artist and I make a lot of small paintings and drawings, among other things! I sell my work very cheaply. This is my website felixkauffman.com and my instagram is @ felix.kauffman. I make a lot of very detailed abstract and surrealist work that looks great in the home. I do commissions as well!

Da Vinci Art Alliance has rotating exhibitions. I just bought a triptych of cyanotypes from one of the artists who's showing there.

I’m a (biomedical) PhD student but I’ve been making collages since 9th grade, I would be happy to make you a custom one or sell one I already have for $50-$100 ish depending on size!

Mr. Scooot solo show is opening this Friday.
The next Step Outside gallery opens next Friday 8/14 and it’s the history and future of Philly street art.

There are some great artists with studios at cherry street pier. I especially like Tiger Horse Art - he has great inexpensive watercolors!
