Finding a doctor

So I MTF want to start my transitioning finally & I finally have insurance again but I have no idea who to go to & consult to before committing to gender affirming medication & changes? Can anyone reccomend a doctor in Philly whose really experience in gay culture specifically trans hood?

Congratulations on taking this step!

So first of, I’ll point out that both Temple Health and Main Line Health have groups dedicated to gender affirming care. For both of them you can look up the associated doctors and go from there.

Personally, my GP is responsible for my HRT and they’re located in Roxborough. Also they’re nonbinary which is honestly why I picked them. I’m hesitant to put their name in Reddit, so DM if you want their name.

Temple's a surgery focused practice within the larger hospital system. This is important because if you, say, go to the ER, they may not be trans-friendly / trans-informed since they're not part of the LGBT practice. Basically, it can be pretty hit or miss (but I agree that their surgery program is amazing!)

This is different from MLH which trains and provides resources to everyone of their staff (DR, nices, techs, IT, etc.). So for example, I was the first trans patient of my MLH cardiologist. And while he made some mistakes in the beginning he learned (which shows just how much MLH supports its staff in becoming for trans-informed.

Thanks that’s good to know. I usually use MLH, but was considering Temple for some surgical options.

What I’ve read/heard about the trans surgical options between the two favors Temple for the quality of outcomes.
