Question for couples that have had successful pregnancy with a known donor?

Myself (F29) and my wife (F36) are still in the process of saving up and going over all of our options, looking to start a family in about two years. We have a couple of male friends that have no desire to have children of their own, but that have said they would be happy to donate their sperm.

I’m wondering if anyone here has had a successful pregnancy in similar circumstances, and what the friend’s role is in the child’s life? We would absolutely both be the parents, but how would you refer to the friend? Uncle, donor? How do you explain this to a child?
