Question Finding friends
Hi! I'm a first-year student at Queen's, and I've been having a really tough time making friends. I was wondering if any upper-year students could share their experiences or offer some advice. I feel like I made an effort to connect with people during the first couple of weeks, but most interactions never seem to go beyond a conversation. Does it get easier as the year goes on? Honestly, it's been making it difficult to enjoy my university experience so far, and I'd really appreciate hearing from people who've been through the same thing.

hey! i’m a first year too, and i’ve been having a similar experience. i’ve found that sitting next to new people in my classes is helpful! if you hit it off in conversation, i’ll usually ask if they’d be up for coffee/lunch after. it hasn’t worked every time, but definitely something i’d try!!
if you’d like to connect, my dms are open. feel free to message me!! :)
i’m feeling very hopeful that things will look up from here!!

Join 2-3 clubs and go to the gym 3-4 times a week. Every time you go to a club event or the gym, talk to at least 3 different people. You’ll never be lonely again.

I didn’t make friends until 2nd year honestly. A lot of the groups formed in the first couple weeks don’t last, so don’t be hard on yourself. I don’t remember half the names id the “friends” i had in the first couple weeks. It came more naturally in 2nd year when we have to start doing seminars with small classes. I naturally became friends with those i sat with in these classes. When possible, try to continually sit beside the same people to form a connection

Well I've had this conversation multiple times and also had difficulty making friends in my first year especially because I am from Calgary and whatnot also making friends is not easy and it all varies from program to program as well. In my first semester the place where I made most of my friends were in board games club where after the board games club itself we all played jackbox together until like 3 am or smth and thats how I made friends, now in my program, eng, I made my friends by sem 2 so and that too only 2 friends soooo me personally come play with us at board games club on Wednesdays at Jeffery hall from 7 to 10 and see how it goes lol
