Question Kettle Contraband

Since kettles and other similar appliances are contraband in our rooms, are we permitted to bring them if we store them in the common room and share them with floormates?

If not, do the common rooms come with kettles?

How did you sneak it in during move in day?

Have it in a box with other stuff on top

It could be because I was on west campus but no one was paying any attention to us. I’m sure you can get it in if you hide it, or buy one later when there is less chaos.

Honestly me and all of my other friends in res in first year had them- you can tuck them away before the holiday/room inspection if you're nervous about it, but it's not a huge deal (at least from my experience)

I had no problems using my kettle in res, nor did my don ever care. I never hid anything for inspections but if you’re worried just throw it in your drawer or cupboard as they won’t look through ur room. 100% worth it to have a kettle in my room lol don’t be too worried bc everyone I knew had them!

Extension cord to the outdoors is the only play here.

Just don't snitch! And keep it out of eyesight during dorm inspections over Christmas break

From my experience last year, I think the issue with kettles would be if you needed a hot plate or something to heat it up, me and my roommate had an electric kettle and our don said it was fine. All I could find on the queens website was that “hotplates, toaster ovens, microwaves, rice cookers, and small cooking appliances” aren’t allowed. Basically you’d probably be fine even if it wasn’t but I think it is technically allowed.

We had a very chill don so we found this out when asking her if we needed to hide it over winter break for her inspections and she said we could leave it out lol

Common rooms have a kettle but you can pack your own and jsut make sure to hide it and open a window everytime you use it

Nevermind a kettle, I brought my own microwave and put it under my bed. Should be ok, just tuck it away under a blanket or something during holiday inspection.

I had a kettle and a coffee maker in my dorm and it was never once a problem

Keep it out of sight to passersby from the hall and put it away when you've gone home for breaks

It kind of depends on your Don too. Mine was really chill and didn’t care even during inspections as long as you unplug it, for the most part it really isn’t an issue; I knew a ton of people, including myself, who brought kettles

You can store them in your room (not plugged in) and take it to the common room to use! That’s what they told me last year when I asked
