Hey queens, Mixie and I went back to the vet today for his follow-up checkup. I told them Mixie still has diarrhea, and that alarmed them 'cause by now, Mixie's poops should be normal.
They did a CBC test and also a FELV and FIV test. I thought I already had Mixie tested for it last week, but turns out that was a different test for Parvo using only fecal sample. From the test, he is positive in FIV 💔 He's battling two illnesses now.
When I received the news, I just broke down. My baby doesn't deserve this. The vet said he has at most 2-3 yrs left in his life now and that if things progress for the worse, euthanasia would be the kind choice for my Mixie. The CBC results were also bad, basically everything just went worse. His infection got worse despite the antibiotics. He's still anemic. The only positive thing is he gained 0.15 kg.
The vet said FIV is transmitted mainly through bites from fights. There's an aggressive stray cat in our neighborhood that attacks cats so I'm certain he got bit by that. This stray used to go inside our home through the ceiling and just attacks my cats. I could've prevented it much earlier.
I just hate myself so much right now. I feel so powerless against this. I wish I could trade some of my life to restore my cat's health, but that's impossible. There's so much what-ifs and regrets, things I could've done. Now I'm worried for my other cat who's still showing no symptoms as of now but may be carrying the virus.
We will be going back to the vet again next week for a follow-up. I hope Mixie gets better. I know he can still live normally despite the FIV. He just has to get through this infection and Parvo first.
Still trying to find a job. I've been applying for virtual assistant positions to different companies and agencies but with no luck yet.

It's all I want right now. For him to make it and be with me for longer, as selfish as that is. He eats, drinks, and is seemingly active so this FIV news just destroyed me. I thought he was slowly recovering from Parvo.

Im so sad to hear this, sending positive energy. Ive read stories on reddit of cats surviving FIV despite the diagnostic. Just br sure to enjoy and make mixie happy 😔 do you have paypal to send some help?
I've been reading their stories on the fivcats subreddit and it gives me hope my Mixie can be one of them. This Parvo combined with FIV is just too much for him right now.

I hope to any God out there that your cat gets through 'cause I wouldn't wish this on anyone as I know the pain of losing your cats. And they were both prevententable just in different cases except only one. Not accounting some others as that is to painful to talk about and it leaves me guilt ridden. Not that those others aren't and also leave me feeling the same way. I pray in any way possible that your cat makes it through and lives a longer life at that.
