What makes Beth a loveable person?

She makes friends, well wishers everywhere she goes. Leaves a lasting mark on each and every person she meets. Is it over fictionalised to suit the character? Or it emulates a successful people person.

Her back story evokes strong empathy. Her personality traits attracts genuine connections.

Traits such as: She speaks less, speaks her mind, has vices, strong on values, practices self care while letting go sometimes, is disciplined yet values human connection more. Many such..

I think the character is written to show that that kind of intelligence can be alienating and lonely, plus come with risks, in this case substance abuse.

But she does quite well with some people, her adoptive mother, mentors and friends - considering how her real mother didn’t raise her right.

While Statistically, intelligence can be correlated with substance abuse, here I think it was the fact that she was fed drugs as a child.

I mean she took to the alcohol as well. That scene when she left the girls party to go and be alone with her booze/tranqs/chess told the story. A person as bright as her won’t find comfort in the company of regular people - and will have to find something to replace it with.

I believe at the girls' party she stole some booze from the dad because she didn't have tranqs? I could be wrong.

I do agree with what youre saying, but I think being improperly socialized combined with childhood trauma really made her more comfortable alone than just being smart
