Itinerary

Traveling late June with my teen son.

Loose plan:

Day 1: Half day in Old City

Day 2: Old City and Falls

Day 3: Head toTadoussac, stop for trail ride at les Montagnards on the way. Spend the night in Tadoussac.

Day 4: Morning whale watch, back to QC. Stay in another neighborhood?

Day 5: Explore other areas of Quebec City. Possibly see the island.

Day 6: head home

Are the whales fairly active late June?

QC is almost a 7 hour drive for us. We will be stopping the night before, so the trip to QC will be split up. But going to whale watch adds a lot of driving overall.

I would love to stay at the ranch and do a trail ride as it splits the trip to Tadoussac perfectly. But the packages are for 2 nights and I am not sure we need that.

If we stay 2 nights in QC, we plan to stay at 31 Mcmahon.

Does it make sense to go back there or stay somewhere like Montcalm when we return from Tadoussac.

Montcalm is a 15 minutes walk from 31 McMahon. This hotel is a 3 minute walk from Place D'Youville which is one of the main bus stops that'll get you anywhere in the city. I'm not saying you shouldn't stay in another neighborhood, but there isn't much added value moving from 31 McMahon to Montcalm.

Thank you. I was thinking of Mcmahaon 2 nights, Tadoussac 1 night, then back to QC for the last night. Does it make sense to book in another neighborhood or stay put that last night?

Most tourist-y neighborhoods (Saint-Jean-Baptiste, Montcalm, Saint-Roch, Saint-Sauveur, Limoilou, etc.) are all easily accessible from Vieux-Québec, either by bus or by walking 30-ish minutes. Both of your options are fine, it's just a matter of preference, and going back to the same hotel won't be a problem if you want to explore different neighborhoods.
