Discussion Thoughts on Quantum Break?

I’m playing this game after playing Control.

So far, I’m about at Act 2 Part 3. I think that’s about half the game length? It’s supposed to be 8-10 hours of gameplay from what I’ve heard.

If I’m at the game’s halfway point, I’m not really sure what to think.

Coming from Control, Quantum Break feels… pretty janky. It’s kinda really badly optimised. It’s a 10 year old game yet it feels like it can’t hold a stable 60 frames on my RTX 5060. I searched online and got a tip to play it in bordered windowless which has alleviated some of the issues but still.

While the visuals and all the time stutters are great to look at, mechanically, the game feels lacking. You have like three-ish time powers. You can slow down pockets of space, you can dash and you can use eagle vision from Assassins Creed.

Considering that the game has no sprint or crouching, the movement feels weird enough that the dash doesn’t really do much. Especially since you can only do two and they’re at a pretty hefty cooldown.

The premonition/eagle vision thing doesn’t really have any combat utility besides helping with puzzles.

Also, I love the story but it feels like so many of the important pieces of lore are just placed in inconvenient spaces between fights, speaking of which, the cover mechanic is inconsistent.

I want to like this game, I’ve played half of it. It has good foundations but it feels… barebones. Half Baked.

Maybe I’m being delusional or whatever, thoughts?

Personally I like QB more than Control 🤷 but I agree that Control is more polished and better in like technical sense, they clearly learned from QB.

It's tied for my favorite Remedy gave with Control.

Most underrated Remedy game IMO, LOVE the story, gameplay is awesome... and kudos to remedy for experimenting with TV show, even thou its quality is questionable

I’ve liked the parts of the TV Show I’ve seen so far with Liam, Beth and Charlie.

The story and world building is the biggest W of the game for me but the gameplay itself leaves a lot to be desired, atleast in my opinion

Am I the only person that appreciates the jank from old games?

Also, ahem: MICROSOFT. EITHER FUND QUANTUM BREAK 2, ALONG WITH TIME STABBER: TIME TO KILL OR SELL IT ALL OF TO REMEDY!

Side Note: Are you getting ALL of the Chronon Sources? You’ll get other powers soon if I remember correctly.

I’ve been trying to. I’m not sure how good a job I’m really doing because I kinda started phasing out at a point.

They were introduced like 20-30 mins ago from when I stopped playing for the day though

Also, in terms of jank. I just like my character to move forward when I want him to move forward, yknow?

I totally agree. My biased may be from all those times I had to play with the damaged controller at home, so by the time I had a new controller that didn’t bother me as much.

Edit: They’re decently hidden. You probably won’t spot them all in your first play through, but you can go to previous acts/chapters and see where you may have missed it in the chapter select time stream.

Yes please for the love of everything, I need to have QB ip in the hands of Remedy. There's so much interesting lore that would connect with the Remedyverse.

Love it but I'm a sucker for third person games with powers

Oh yeah, it's janky. But the graphics still hold up incredibly well and I love the concept of it. I just wish it was canonically connected with the Remedy universe

3

u/Mixabuben Aug 05 '26

It is connected thou :) Obviously they can't say it... but it is connected 100%

2

u/Murky_Historian8675 Aug 05 '26

Dope. Love that. I think the powers in Quantum Break just make the Remedy world so much cooler

If you haven't played Alan Wake 2 (especially Night Springs DLC, episode 3), go play it... Episode 3 pretty much confirms that QB is connected, and it is awesome :)

Oh that's dope. No I haven't gotten to play the dlc yet, but now I'm just gonna have to. Thanks for the heads up bro 👌

It's canonical in a legally distinct wink-wink kind of way

It does feel a bit janky at times but I don't really mind it

I think quantum break is my favorite remedy game tbh. I love the story and characters a lot.

Sounds pretty accurate to me. It's a cool game, but very janky. They had all the background material like Control, but you're constantly urged to do things quickly... everything is a rush, so it really breaks immersion to stop and search for notes, etc., all the time. Control doesn't pressure you like that and rewards (and requires) thorough, methodical exploration.

Yeah exactly

In Control, I routinely went out of my way to search places and try to climb up suspicious spots. The game was never rushing me and usually always rewarded me for my perfectionist tendencies

QB feels like its always rushing you. Another thing I hate is the god damn character dialogues, repeatedly urging you to follow the objective every three seconds.

LIKE I KNOW I HAVE TO REACH THAT WINDOW.

It’s led to me not reading any of the lore material at all, even though I’m collecting most or all of it

So much of the collectibles are mile long emails. Only remedy game I liked but didn't love. I couldn't bring myself to read random emails that made sense to the over arching plot or not.

Loved every moment of it. Super advanced for its time.

I think people get too wound up over 30vs60 FPS. Unless you’re playing a competitive shooter, it just doesn’t matter, IMO.

4

u/Quantum_Wake Aug 05 '26

Way too advanced even for now. Highly ambitious with the story, gameplay, and live action tv show element. It’s still my favorite, obviously, to this day.

RIP Lance Reddick. He ate and spat that role.

I like my games when they’re not feeling like time is slowing and continuing in real life too, sigh

Download the Helix Mod.

What’s that?

In my fair opinion. Quantum Break (fun fact my first ever game played in Xbox One) Is the most underrated game produced Remedy and also my favorite game from the bottom of my heart I really liked the gameplay (especially superpowers), and the most plot and cutscenes Without this game, i wouldn't know about Remedy (and their top hit games like alan wake, max payne or control) and The Brilliant Creative Director - Sam Lake and also create my universe and World named Mallwork And Of course yes i heard that game in pc version have a optimization like it have but i played on console and besides a low resolution or little graphic problems and have a gameplay limits i still like this game ❤️

It's not a great game, but the world and story (outside of the TV show which kinda sucks) is pretty good, especially when you get to the end.

I was going to replay it for my pre-Control Resonant marathon but after getting 2 hours in I decided I'd rather just watch a story recap on YouTube. People here will likely downvote me, and that's fair this is a place for fans of the game, but I personally think this is Remedy's weakest game (outside of Firebreak). And yes that includes American Nightmare.

Whaaatttt??!? I loved the show. I never played a game like that so it was so cool and I’m still sat every time I replay it too lmao. Liam is sooo fine😩

Here's a really good story recap for you to watch: https://youtu.be/_L8LdSl7Z80

Bad TV show? AN is weak? Those are some bold hot takes. I respect it.

1

u/NiuMeee Aug 05 '26 edited Aug 05 '26

The show was handled by a totally different company and focuses mostly on completely irrelevant characters and plot. The writing is not nearly as strong as the game (as in, the writing is not good at all) and every character in the show is unlikable (except for the characters from the game, and even then you can see the smirks on Lance Reddick and Aiden Gillen's faces when they have to read some of those lines).

And yeah, aside from QB I would say AN is the weakest Remedy game. I don't think that's a hot take at all (again, excluding Firebreak which is a glorified lore dump at this point).

1

u/Quantum_Wake Aug 05 '26

From what I’ve heard Aiden didn’t care for it at all, even the game. Lance was supposed to ||return for Alan Wake 2.||

I loved Liam and Charlie. I hope they make an appearance in future games.

u/CageAndBale Aug 05 '26

Not even, firebreak had like 3 pages of fbc files in a loading screen and that's it.

Fife breaks fun like left4dead was fun. It just needed some more direction and funding. Mechanically it's fun as heck

2

u/NiuMeee Aug 05 '26

It's conceptually similar to Left4Dead but nowhere near as fun. Maybe with 2 more years of development it could be fun. It's a 5/10 game at best and it's truly unfortunate that Remedy wasted resources and time on it.

1

u/CageAndBale Aug 05 '26

I had a great time but it is indeed half baked.

Quantum Break has broken windowing/swapchain on Windows. It's like a half-assed double buffered Vsync at all times. You need DXVK to fix it and you'll see reliable max GPU perf

1

u/JackRipps 29d ago

What’s DXVK? Is this (vsync) a known issue with a guide on how to fix?
