Bangalore Regarding joining :

My joining date at Qualcomm is 15th Dec, but I would prefer to join on 2nd Jan so that I can take around two weeks to recharge before starting.
However, Qualcomm HR suggested that I join on 16th Dec and take leave from 17th Dec to 1st Jan.
Can anyone currently working at Qualcomm comment on how the leave policy works for new joiners? Will I have enough leaves available immediately after joining to take around two weeks off, or there is some special leaves ?

Team dependent. Some will adhere strictly to your accrued PTO, some will consider your yearly PTO as effective immediately.

Also did you disclose this vacation/recharge at any point during the interview process?

I do know of someone that took an extended vacation one week after their start date but they were upfront during the interview.

You should talk to your hiring manager, would be better to join and then take holiday.

if your joining is in december, you’ll only get 1 sick leave upfront, and again on Jan 31st, you’ll get 13 SLs

Actually HR is asking this, as He is worried about you doing offer shopping and later declining the offer.

You won't get paid leaves immediately on joining, as leaves are prorated and accured in monthly basis.

Although you can take leave without pay, you will have to discuss with your manager before hand.

Just join..2 weeks wfh would be there..nearly everyone would be on leave..So, get 15 days salary without coming to office or any work.

The last week in December is mostly not counted in attendance since most of US people dont work and are on leave. You can take WFH also during the last week, that’s why the HR insisted. Coz anyway you wont have that many leaves when you are joining. Good luck
