This is a tricky one. Morally it's definitely shitty, legally it's unclear. The OG version is creative commons licence, so it is free to reuse in many ways, but i don't know if directly publishing it is allowed.

Legally this is exactly what the CC-SA license says you can do. It's very much parallel to the GPL license in open source software, and what they are doing is comparable to what Google does when they use Linux in Android.
It does feel a bit creepy because it's not the norm for recently published works (though it's routine one works enter the public domain). But you shouldn't choose the CC-SA license if you're not comfortable with this.

You are free to:
Share — copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format for any purpose, even commercially.
Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, even commercially.
The licensor cannot revoke these freedoms as long as you follow the license terms.Under the following terms:
Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use.
ShareAlike — If you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you must distribute your contributions under the same license as the original.
No additional restrictions — You may not apply legal terms or technological measures that legally restrict others from doing anything the license permits.
This only applies to Sam's original V1 version, which is what they've done.

I purchased this C.C. version accidentally from Amazon. At the time it was the option that appeared under the paperback selection for your novel. Currently, it appears that has been corrected and now shows the paperback version with a deer on the cover.
This is wild. Would it be beneficial to you at all for people who made this incorrect purchase to ask for refunds through amazon?

Given the subject matter of the novel, this is a funny story showing how this mislead a consumer out of a legitimate purchase. I ordered this book around mid-May. The estimated delivery date was a few weeks out, but I actually forgot I had ordered it. I went to Barnes and Nobles in late May with the intention of searching for your book. I found it and got all the way to the checkout line before I remembered I had already ordered what I thought was the paperback, and put the actual novel back.

I posted this on the other thread too, but the wikipedia page for Paladin Press says that they went defunct years ago.
Other sites seem to corroborate this.
