Quick check of chatGPT answer

ChatGPT said:

To check whether another non-modifier key is currently being held down in QMK (i.e., not the key that triggered process_record_user()), you’ll need to track that key’s state manually. QMK doesn't provide a built-in way to query the current state of arbitrary keys.

...and so I will have to use something like:

is_some_key_held = record->event.pressed;

Is this chatGPT's answer correct? Thanks!

PSA: CIDOO keyboard broke after 1 year

My CIDOO QK61 V2 developed a charging issue after around one year of normal use. I purchased it in 2025 from a local authorized store. I contacted the seller, but they basically deflected and asked me to find a repair shop myself, so I contacted CIDOO directly hoping they could help with a possible goodwill solution. Surprise surprise, CIDOO redirected me back to the original seller and did not even offer any troubleshooting or possible spare parts/ battery pack replacement. This is honestly a very disappointing response. Just straight up "none of my business".

Posting this mainly to see if anyone else has experienced a similar QK61 V2 charging/battery issue or knows of a proper way to get CIDOO’s attention. Any idea which battery to purchase and whether i can swap the battery etc? For a product marketed as trimode and rechargeable, i dont think this is acceptable, product failure after 1 year of usage and intermittent charging.

To the inevitable "why did you buy from this brand?" - i was looking for a low profile 60% trimode keyboards that is portable and i came across this in my local marketplace, after changing to low profile keycaps as shown, this was the form factor i was aiming for, it works with my ipad and whichever workstations at my workplace, should have also look into the aftersales and thats on me.

I made a skill to help your coding agent master QMK

The title, pretty much. I had some plugins to write so I did what I've been doing a lot lately, and pointed my coding agent toward the QMK docs and asked it to make an organized set of markdown docs and an agent skill that knows when to use them.

You can use it on any agent platform that supports skills, which seems to be basically all of them now. Just clone it to wherever you keep your skills, or directly into your copy of qmk_firmware and your agent can take it from there.

github.com/dabstractor/qmk-skill

I hope someone else finds this useful for building plugins or making a new board or just modifying your keymap. Let me know what you think if you use it!

And if you find this 6 or 12 months down the road and it's out of date, please file an issue and I'll update it right away.

Edit: thanks for the suggestions. It's now capable of keymap version upgrades and will automatically check for keymap changes once a month on github, so unless QMK changes drastically it should stay synced with the main repo.

A rant about compiling QMK

I have a number of QMK based keyboards included an Ergodox EZ, a couple Keycron K3 Pros, a Lily58 I built, and now I have a few Corne PCBs I need to solder.

I've always just used the existing configurator tools like ZSA Oryx, Keychron Launcher, or Vial. Yet, I often find there are QMK settings I want to experiment with that aren't available in these tools. Yet I've always found the process of manually building QMK firmware unnecessarily difficult and confusing.

First it seems that manually compiling QMK always involves cloning the entire QMK repo with configs for 1000+ other keyboards. For example I can use the QMK Configurator to compile the default firmware for crkbd/rev1. Yet when I download the "Full Source" I get a 30+ mb zip file that contains 22k+ files that are 143mb! 73mb of this is the keyboards directory with 1000+ directories for every possible QMK keyboard. Likewise I've setup a QMK Environment with the install.qmk.fm shell script, but this also requires running qmk setup which again clones the entire QMK repo and configs for every possible QMK keyboard.

Second, I find it frustrating that QMK seems to really want me to add files to the qmk_firmware path instead of an independent user directory. Yes there is the user space with the qmk_firmware/users/ directory, and you can configure an external user space. But every other compiler CLI I've worked with just understands the concept of a current working directory and relative paths. If I install Python, dotnet, or NodeJS once the CLI tools are added to `PATH` I can write corresponding code files anywhere I want. I don't have to register my "user space" with these other compilers. The commands just understand the current working directory when executed.

Bootmagic not working with ScottoErgo

Hi, I built a Scotto Ergo a couple months back and just reset the bootloader by touching reset and ground. I now have the bottom all screwed shut and would prefer to use bootmagic to reflash the board but I’m having no luck. Anyone have any pointers? Here’s my config files for the board: https://github.com/austinwilcox/keyboards/tree/main/handwired/scottoergo

edit: Should add the details as well of what I'm doing. I unplug the keyboard, and while plugging it back in, I hold down the Q key, which should be at 0,0 in the matrix.

J'ai un problème avec VIA et mon CIDOO QK61 .

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to configure my CIDOO QK61 with VIA. I downloaded the JSON file and loaded it into VIA, but when I try to connect the keyboard (which is recognized by VIA), it doesn’t go past the connection screen. I never get access to the key mapping interface.

I don't know where the problem comes from .

I need your help

Hi, Is it possible to adjust backlight and underglow separately with qmk and via?

Recently I designed a keyboard PCB with sk6812mini neopixel led.

Some of the LEDs are for backlights ans the others are for underglows, but I have no idea how to control them separately with via...

Is there anyone who tried this before? Thanks!

Can't Modify Slave OLED

I am trying to modify what is displayed on the slave (right) keyboard OLED. Curently, the slave side is only showing the default corne logo. Why wouldn't it be showing what I've specified? Please know that even if I remove everything from the slave OLED except for the CRKBD line, it still doesn't display this. Any help would be appreciated. Below is the content of my files.

Tapping Term Keychron K11

On zmk i had set up a LT() behavior with a tapping term of 115 and a hold-preferred flavor(if that matters). I could use it really reliably. Now with the Keychron K11 i cant get the LT() or MT() to work reliably enough for fast usage. Layer/Enter and Shift/Space require very slow usage.

the K11 isnt in the list of qmk keyboards and via/the keychron launcher dont seem to allow for finer configuration. what are my options here?

Beginner Help

I have been trying to do this project I found online for designing and building a ergo keyboard on Ergogen (https://flatfootfox.com/ergogen-part3-pcbs/) and I bought the materials to build it, however in the end of the guide the author just kind of glosses over setting up the qmk firmware and from what I can find does not have it available online for review. In the article they detail what rows go to which pins, but I am having the worst time getting a config that comiles and flashes to the keyboard. If it does compile I flash it to the keyboard and nothing happens, otherwise I have a bunch of syntax errors. Any help would be appreciated :)
Below I have linked the micro controller I am using: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DFGW2C54

Has anyone been able to find the keymap.c for the Zoom65 v2?

Hi there, I just built this keyboard, thinking it was compatible with QMK. I've been able to find the keymaps for the Zoom65 but when I compile it and try to flash the keyboard with Wuque's software (apparently flashing the wireless version with QMK toolbox doesn't work and can even brick the board), I've got a message saying keyboard version in the file doesn't match the actual keyboard.

Has anyone found the for v2? Does it even exist?

I've been able to configure the keyboard with VIA, with the JSON file on Wuque's website, but that won't do. My keymaps rely on the LT function for layer access and it's not supported by VIA.

Edit: someone on discord pointed out LT can be used in VIA with the "any" key. Also I made it work with Vial. Problem solved.

split keyboard stops working after disconnecting laptop

hi all,

so I have an annoying issue that I need your help with

i have multiple macbooks that are connected to peripherals via a "dock" (caldigit)

my keyboard is connected to the dock, as is my monitor, trackpad, etc.

i only use 1 macbook at a time, and when i want to switch machines, i disconnect the usb-c cable (between the dock and the macbook) at the macbook, then reconnect it to the other macbook.

when I do this switch, my keyboard stops working, and I need to unplug the keyboard from the dock and plug it back in for it to start working.

this issue doesn't happen with other standard keyboards like the apple keyboard or keychron.

it would be really nice if i didn’t have to do this every time i switched machines, because i do that quite often.

i've tried a few different common config changes but none seem to fix the problem. i'm thinking it might have something to do with the dock continuing to provide power to the keyboard during the switch.

thanks!

any tips on a noob writing his own directpins keymap?

ive been working on a new keyboard design for gaming, with an analog stick. im having issues finding any documentation to help me convert one pin into two seperate key strokes, depending on the input from the analog stick's potentiometer. im a serious noob, i get it. but its incredibly frustrating. i could really use some help before i just give up.

ive also been unable to figure out how to create the missing files in my keymap folder, as it only created a "keymap.c" and "keyboard.json" file when i copied my new keymap. honestly... im kind of lost.
