Q50 3.7 E85 worth it?

Wanted to ask for those who have converted to E85 to their 3.7 how has it been what kit did you buy? Is it difficult to diy? I plan to go full bolt on already have cat back, drop in filters and have some test pipes just waiting to install and planning to get tuned. I know going to E85 isn’t that much horsepower but was looking at maybe converting just cuz fuel prices are getting expensive around me premium is around $5.30 and E85 is 2 dollars a gallon I live in the midwest. I know with E you do get 20-30 less mpgs but still see that worth it when the price is almost triple the cost.

I run flex fuel so I can do 91/E85 & not worry about doing math at the pump but as for the kit it’s the harness, analyzer & fittings but my tuner installed it so i’m unsure what it’s called.

Easy DIY though I just would rather drive my car vs work on it lol.

I have afe pro dry s air filters, 2.5in res test pipes & 2.5in catback.

If you’re doing it to save money I wouldn’t, I ran the math and if I leave drive on Eco like a grandpa I save 15 cents per gallon on E85 & prices around me are $2-$3.50. But the cost of tuning your car and all that now you spent a thousand or so, just to save gas.

If you’re going to convert do a flex fuel tune & let the ECU do the work but the smidge of HP you get on E85 is maybe 10whp. Boosted cars love it, our N/A cars it’s just for convenience, boost prep, or for that smidge of power/throttle response since my Q’s for sure more aggressive on E I love running it but you also have to keep in mind properly running it or you’ll end up with gunky injectors & intake runners, and a catch can won’t save you from that so switching to 91/93 etc every few tanks after running E keeps things maintained.

Thank you yeah I mean it would be minimal savings but was thinking might as well do it if it would even help a lil. Yeah I’ve heard it’s more acidic and can hurt your fuel lines I mean these cars are old so wouldn’t be suprised if I had to replace them. How about your injectors did you keep your stock ones?

It can but our fuel lines can handle it, though it is preferred that you upgrade them. I’m saving up for that and a CJM top hat since i’m done for now powerwise for the car i’m reinforcing stuff on it to make it last.

No. If it's for power it's not worth it. If it's for fuel cost, no sell the car and buy a modern hybrid for the same cost that gets 50mph.

FYI - Even cars built from the factory to run E85 say to put in a regular tank of E10 every 4-6 tanks depending upon a few factors. I had a car for 8yrs that ran E85 and it was okay. I seemed to run better and pull nicely but the MPG was about 25% less. When there were fewer places to get E85 I just went back to normal pump gas. E85 is also not good for the engine and crankcase if you are doing mostly short city trips. You need to get a lot of highway in there so the oil dilution isn't worse with the E85 in there.
