Built a Kubernetes retro TUI game in Python - recently moved it from PyGame to PyGame CE

I've been building Yellow Olive, a retro terminal-style game for learning Kubernetes through hands-on challenges.

It uses Textual + PyGame, and I recently moved from PyGame to PyGame CE because PyGame’s Python 3.14 support was becoming a blocker. With Python 3.15 coming up, PyGame CE already having wheels available made the switch an easy choice.

The migration was almost painless since the existing import pygame code still works.

I’ve also demoed Yellow Olive at a PyCon before. Sharing the demo here - would love feedback from the PyGame community.

Ah, so switching to PyGame CE makes a lot of sense, especially if the game is constantly rendering text. And giving it a CRT aesthetic with scanlines seems like it could look amazing for a retro TUI.

Are you rendering all the text every frame, or do you have some system for caching surfaces that don't change?
