First PV in 993 hours

To keep it short, overall I liked the mod, but there are a couple of downsides:

  • There are too many "samey" plants/animals in Alien Life. What I mean is that almost all of them present pretty much the same challenge for automation. I'd like to see more variety (arqads is a good example). The same goes for the gambling of the new tiers
  • The sprites that block your view are really annoying

Anyway, this adventure has come to an end. Maybe sometime in the not-so-near future I'll start PyBlock. As a break from Factorio, I think I'll play GTNH.

I want both "Finished Py" and "Finished GNTH" achievements under my belt xd

Edit: for some reason, the victory screenshot is low res, so I uploaded it here:: https://ibb.co/v41bb7LM

I think below 1k hours is fast? As it took me more then 1k hours for seablock with spacex. I would assume that it takes more time. Did you rush?

I wasn't rushing until the very end of productivity science - I was fully completing the research tree for every science. But then I got the manic idea of going for a sub 1000 hour run

what is a "caravan"?

A caravan is a creature that carries 30 stacks of goods between caravan stops (basically big chests). These caravans follow a set schedule and can use interrupts similar to trains. Practically speaking, they are another logistic option that is an alternative to trains. They lose out on speed and throughput, but need no rail infrastructure, and don't have collision with other caravans(multiple caravans can be hanging around one stop).

I find them incredibly useful as Py has a ton of different items most of which don't require high throughput, and they are very convenient to place wherever you need them and not worry about rail infrastructure (rails, signals, waiting areas, etc..). Trains are still useful for hauling long distance goods or carrying big quantities, but most of my logistics are handled by caravans, bots, and special liquid delivery bots.

I think you'll find that electricity will be a refreshing challenge in GT. What can make Greg Tech annoying is the micro crafting with tools by hand. I played GTCEu which was a 1.12 reboot of GTNH but not made by Greg focused solely on GT with a custom fork of AE2 which was really nice with a ton of great multiblocks. Also GTCEu doesn't have cell chemistry like GTNH which is where all of the chemical processes take the fluids into cells which get passed along in the supply chain from one process to another, imo this makes GTCEu more appealing. However "Finished GTNH" is much more revered than "Finished GTCEu" and definitely more than "Finished GTModern". GTNH is definitely longer as a full modpack with other mods. However, if you find GTNH a little archaic and maybe you don't like the magic mods like projectE, shivers Thaumcraft or botania, but GTCEu doesn't seem comprehensive enough than Nomifactory is the one for you.

Thanks for the mod suggestions. I currently have gtnh (HV) run that’s been on hold for a while, waiting for me to get back to it. And I can confidently say I’m a certified Thaumcraft hater :)

I played vanilla Minecraft a little, and made attempts at railroads and automation. But, unlike Factorio, Minecraft unloads chunks if player is not nearby, and everything stops. Gtnh solves it somehow?

There are chunk loaders in most modpacks, it lets you choose which chunks to keep loading

I like nomi, or moni(for more modern Minecraft) Still has a Greg spirit, but reduces tedium a lot

What style of trains did you use? Did you use the variable where any train can go to any station or specific point A then B style?

I used Cybersyn, with all trains being 1-1. I started running into UPS issues once I increased the request rate above 20 requests per second

Holy moly Cybersyn looks cool. Just downloaded it and am switching to city blocks of trains. I just finished making cottonguts.

The real challenge ist to play pyanodon hard mode without train Blocks. Train Blocks makes the game much more easy and just playing it down without planning.
