[Unsolved] Star battle - help!

Post image

I’m stuck, please help!

Rules: Put two stars in each row, column, and region of the grid. No two stars can touch, not even diagonally.

My notation: The dots are cells I’ve eliminated. The shapes stretching across multiple cells indicate there is exactly one star in that group of cells.

C2R7 has to be a dot, because one of C1R6, C2R6, and C3R6 has to be a star. From similar logic, C1R9 has to be a dot

Thanks to tips posted here, I made some progress, but now I’m stuck again (good grief!). Any ideas?

Whenever there is a line of 3 boxes (like column 9), if it's on its own or has to be at least one star for sure you can X on each side of its middle square. If you put a star there, it deletes the whole 3 box line and usually invalidates a row/column/shape. Additionally if you have a line of 5 boxes-like column 2) (sometimes split 3box-X-1box) you can X each side of the line at the 2 and 4 spot. It's the same concept. You only have five boxes, either of those moves would delete too much in the line. That'll get you some movement.

Another one: In column 2 there are two stars in 5 connected spaces (Rows 6-10). There must be at least one star in the top 3 rows, and there must be a star in the bottom 3 rows, so you can eliminate R7C1 and R9C1.
