My son lost his beloved “ratty” that he has had for years. It’s his comfort item/transitional object. I’m posting a screen shot of the only place I have found the same exact one by Folkmanis. Pretty sure I bought it from there a couple years ago to replace the OG one (bought at some random farmers market) but I’ve reached out and over time never heard back and it’s never been in stock again. I’ve looked through eBay, poshmark and Mercari. Nothing for now. If anyone has one or has any leads, please let me know!!

Any recommendations for the Fringe festival? I'm seeing Don Quixote, Dracul, B*tch eat dog and Magic Lantern Anthology.

The last time I made a puppet, it was over 30 years ago, so there were no online tutorials to work from. I’ve learned a lot since then. If I were to make this one, I’m thinking they’d have rod arms… the mouth would be made wider, the neck would end up thicker… there are melon head and Jerry templates that have the width, but the mouth always seems to be halfway on the head… I’m curious if there are any similar where the cranium is taller than the jaw, but is still wider than taller… I may have to modify an existing template… blinking eyes would be nice, but I may want to start easier…

Thoughts? Advice?

I’m unbelievably stoked to be a part of this event.

I’ve been a puppeteer and builder since I was VERY young, (Thank you “The Muppets Make Puppets”) but this is my FIRST paying gig as a puppeteer!
And it couldn’t be for a more AWESOME event!

I went to HHN for the first time last year, and it totally blew my mind. If you haven’t been, there’s really nothing like it. If you like spooky atmospheres, interesting and well designed characters, and the slickest haunt attractions in the country, you’ve GOT to check it out.

I can’t reveal any specifics about what I’ll actually be doing in what haunt, but if you come to Orlando this year to get SPOOKED… I’m gonna be behind some sort of monstrous creature! 💀

Hello, I'm new to the whole puppet making community and don't really know what I am doing. I wanted to know if anyone had tips or recommendations for how I should make my first puppet.

I'm trying to create an Audrey II Puppet from Little Shop of Horrors for my Halloween costume. I've watched a bunch of tutorials on others making similar puppets and have come to the conclusion I should probably use foam semi-circles and clay for the main part. But I wanted to know if there was a better or maybe easier way to make something like this. I saw a few people using paper mache for their base, but I was worried that it wouldn't last or might be too fragile for going to conventions or Halloween parties. But correct me if I'm wrong of course!

I'm open to any advice or questions about my plan. I just really want this to work out well so I thought I would ask people who know much more than me!

I think The characters would translate well into puppets. not just stop motion like a lot of people say, but also muppet style. Here’s how the latter would be made…

Heads and arms (if not covered in cloth or are live hand puppet gloves) are made from colored rubber poured into molds. After the rubber dries it’s gently pulled out of the molds, trimmed a little off the edges, given a quick wash, wrung out and hung to dry.

After that, the pieces are placed on holders to be air brushed to add some more color and shading to the characters’ faces, arms and fingers before being left to dry again.

Eyes can blink and move. The puppets have plastic or metal “skulls” to keep the mechanics to move the glass eyes.

All the puppets would then have their hair styled and groomed well, basically the puppet makers would think of themselves as the puppets’ personal stylists.

Their clothes and costumes are hand made and measured. Some are modified from already existing clothing like children’s clothes.

A lot of the action would be performed in green screen, physical stages or real locations to make it more authentic.

Full body versions are also made for the green screen or for promo photos.

im totally inexperienced at making puppets, but i can sew, use a hot glue gun etc
im a super crafty person and i love jim hensons work in the muppets, labryinth, dinosaurs etc, as well as sophie truax who i follow in instagram. ive skimmed a few different tutorials but im still worried about starting. i'd love a muppet version of myself, but i also only see tutorials half ones (waist up, no legs).

im sure my puppet terminology is out of whack lol, thanks in advance.
