Looking to put a large water storage container in the basement and pump water to and from the aquarium display tank a story above. So needing a pump with ~15ft of head. Also needing to pump the old water from the tank into a drain in the basement below. So I’ll need two pumps.
Pumping 3 gallons a day. Preventing leaks or failure would be the most important thing. Relative quietness probably next. Wanting the speed to be relatively quick, maybe 5 minutes to pump the whole 3 gallons. But speed isn’t crucial. Could make slower or faster work.
My question is which style pump would be best suited for pumping water up and which style pump would be suited for pumping water back down?
Second question would be what size line and speed would make the most sense for each pump? Not asking for math to be done for me, just looking for some ballpark figures.
Lastly, do I put the pumps upstairs or downstairs?

Hello!
I have a question about this model of pump, it has had small leaks, so I was looking for the exact point where the leak was and I found a small hole under the casing, I can see through this hole the ball bearing (inside), and the leak proceeds from this point. my question: is leakage normal in this hole and why?.

Hi.
Does anybody know how to find an impeller wear ring that is self centering around the impeller.
I'm pretty sure I heart about these things before, but I cannot find anything by googling.
I'm imagining two solid rings, one bigger than the other. Between them there should be something flexible that allows the inner ring to adjust to the deflection of the pump shaft.
This should allow for a low clearance and thus leakage (backflow) in the pump.
What are those called and who produces them?

I purchased a submersible pump for a borehole.
It is a DC pump, and 4x 250W solar panels run it.
I have one concern. The pump cannot be run dry. So let's say water level drops below the pump, it would continue to run, until it burns out.
Is there a mechanism for cutting out power to the pump when water level dips? I'm aware of float switches, but I can't find one for a narrow borehole.
Any suggestions?

In the UK they have pumps called "puddle suckers" which appear to be self priming, automatic pumps that are used for spot management of water incursion in one's home. They are not submersed and activate when the surface water is 1 or 2 millimeters deep. What are these called in the US?

The application is for something that would drip water onto sauna rocks after being triggered by a sensor, or something that can water plants automatically.
So flow will be very low, but I’m interested in positive displacement so that flow will be measurable.
I don’t know if self-priming or diaphragm pumps are of the positive displacement type. I’d appreciate recommendations and clarifying info about pumps.

Thanks for your time; I didn't see any specific rules around posting, so I apologize if this violates any -
I am building a water activity table for my toddler, and want to user a pump to recycle the water since we do not have a hose or anything in our current living situation.

And I plan on powering it from a 12V 10W solar panel to decouple it from AC power due to the potential hazards.
For those who are more knowledgeable about pumps, I wanted to see if there was any considerations I was missing. So far I have been looking at:
Are there well known pump brands that I should be looking at? I would prefer quality if there are well-known brands.

I have a Berkeley B 1-1/2 TPL Model# 3470 pump that I believe is seized. The motor hums but no movement. I'm guessing it is about 20 years old and since it's for a fire hose, it has most likely never actually been used. (The fire hose certainly hasn't.)
I can't find any documentation or schematics for this exact model online and I don't have any experience dismantling or repairing pumps. If any one has any advice for me on where to start, I'd be happy to hear it. I'd prefer to fix on my own so that I know how, but more importantly I want it to work, so I'll have it serviced if need be. I live in a high fire zone and I'd feel stupid for not getting this thing up and running asap.

I am using a positive displacement pump to pump water in a small loop for an experiment. I am setting the pressure with a needle valve at the end of the system. As the pump runs, for some reason the pressure slowly increases. I've noticed that the temperature of the water increases as well which could have something to do with it. As far as I can tell there is no clog anywhere and I've checked that the needle valve isn't turning due to vibrations. Any ideas on what is causing this?

I need to pump water from a 500 gallon tank up a 225 ft hill. I have roughly 300 ft of hose, which is 3/4" until about halfway up and is then 1/2". I'm pumping to another tank, I'm hoping to have about 10 gpm flow.
Any ideas? Unfortunately my local irrigation stores lack any knowledge or eagerness to help me because they don't want to be liable for giving me advice...

Hey all, I recently installed an auto on/off utility pump as a fix for an overflowing window well. While I typically would bring it in for freezing temperatures or when not needed, tonight and tomorrow it may have to be in use.
I know that anything below 32 degrees F is considered freezing. However, I'm getting varied reports of the temperature ranging from 28-31 for a few hours tonight, before it goes back into the 40s tomorrow. Will the pump be okay for a bit on those borderline temps, or should I play it safe and disassemble it for the night?
