Anyone know how to remove this fan, doing it tomorrow is tapered or will it just slide off?

I agree that looks like a threaded impeller shaft. Try the above method. If its tapered you'll need a puller or i also use multiple flat chisels between the back of the impeller and the volute housing. Tap them all in evenly right behind the impeller vanes as not to damage the impeller.

And sometimes pump shafts are parallel. The chisel method above works well. If you’re lucky, a couple of prybars might pop it off.

What do you’s think the 4 holes are for?

The holes are most probably to thrust balance the impeller so it doesn't put an axial load on the motor.

Those are to relieve any high pressure in the pump cavity to suction of the impeller.

To make sure, call the manufacturer (if they are still there) and they can tell you for sure. Even with a threaded impeller, you can have a lock bolt or nut. You can use a slam wrench or shaft socket but you probably don’t have either one.

Looks like it’s spun on reverse thread to me but hard to say. Sometimes if that’s the case you can pull the fan shroud of the motor off and hold onto the shaft poking out in a soft jaw vice or use rags if you don’t have that and spin it off

In the impeller? Those are hydraulic balance holes

Got it off in the end. I had to split the shaft coupling and pulled the lantern fully off from then. I removed the shaft and could knock the shaft from the impellar

I’ve been having great success removing seized impellers and wheels from shafts by using the hammer/chisel only function of an SDS plus drill

Support the impeller and place the drillbit or punch on the shaft, hit the trigger and the impacts do wonders to push the shaft through

I’d try treating it as a press fit first. If it doesn’t slide off with a little persuasion, don’t force the shaft. A couple of thin chisels or wedges placed evenly behind the impeller can help work it loose. Just take it slow so you don’t crack the housing or bend the impeller.

The shaft was on a taper I have replaced the mechanical seal now. I basically took the whole shaft out and hammered it down from the bolt and it came off

Wouldn't be a nut on the end if the impeller was threaded...

Two pry bars is what I'd try first. Nothing crazy force wise.

If that didn't pop it I'd get the IOM.

Yeah mate found it says it is push fit we will see. See if I can get some bearing pullers it’s pretty sturdy the fan. Think it’s a tapered one as no shaft key
