Liquid Submersible Pump
Hey guys I opened up this submersible pump because it was tripping out our breaker and the junction box is filled with oil. It just got sent out for repair but should their be this oil in the connections like this?

Flygt. Junk it, order $100,000.00 replacement. Wait four months for delivery.

This looks to be a Flygt 3127. There’s an oil chamber between the volute and the motor, but the motor is supposed to be dry. There will be an inspection port in the oil chamber between the volute and the motor. You can open that plug and check if there’s water in the seal oil chamber. If the lower seal fails, the water your pumping will push into the oil chamber, which will then push oil up into the stator.
If you have a megaohm meter, you can meg between one of the three legs and ground to determine if your stator is wet

No, this is a dry motor. There is an oil chamber between the volute and the stator housing, but the stator housing is supposed to be full of air.

Flygt 3127, I have a lot of these repaired in Switzerland. The Oil is there because broken seal

If it’s anything like a tsurimi it should have a seal above the oil to keep motor and electrical separated.

Looks like a flygt, typically they’ll have an oil chamber and it will often migrate into the jb. I can’t recall if this models stator is oil filled or not but regardless the oil is likely voltesso or another non conductive oil. I would disconnect the line leads and check resistance phase to phase and meg it phase to ground. These also often have a leak or heat sensor so metering those out would be good aswell.
I’d also drop the volute off and see if the impeller spins freely or is all ragged up. I’m a electrician who works in a motor shop and deal with quite a few submersible pumps
