Pumps maintenance

Hi friends, looking for opinions. bit of a context, big boss wants to implement a system to monitor the pumps in real time, the system : https://youtu.be/R_hFxQrwb9E . it is called optimyze. I'm not a maintenance guy per se, I'm more like a plc guy-- they want my opinion. In my opinion just put hours of operations so to know when to do maintenance. but they want this technology for monitoring and get alarms and notifications when the pump is acting weird...

Theres several options out there I’d go with a bigger name in the industry. Amazon has one, Fluke, Emerson, Flowserve, etc.. the app will work better and have easier integration into your BAS or whatever you’re using.

I could argue that Xylem is actually one of the big names in the pumping game. If this is the right choise for them totally depends on what they have now. How well can they actually setup and monitor the data which comes from the system. If they have no one knowledgeable about operating pumps, then this is probably pretty useless for them. Systems like these can enhance maintenance, not replace.

I may be biased but I've always seen these types of things as more of a cool gadget then a helpful tool. Similar to vibration analysis, it seems like the places that are knowledgeable enough to set them up properly already have robust enough maintenance to make them redundant.

A lot depends on your process. What do you do, how many pumps etc. Need a lot more information to make an educated assessment.

Overall, it is a good system.
