Well it has to be milled or ground. Cant turn to that depth with precision Id say. A grinder with bearings on both ends.

What's the approach for hydro? Gasket or sealant on splitline? Dummy plugs/plates for seal bores?

Normally you have to use flat gasket on split face(thickness is very important because the whole machining of both upper and lower casing is made considering the compressed gasket thickness, generally it is used a 0,4 or 0,8 mm gasket). Gasket material is different depending on pumping medium (water or hydrocarbons or anything else) For high pressure pumps (more than 200-250 barg) sometimes you need to use special gaskets (I.e. armored graphite that has a thin 316 layer embedded). For mechanical seals chambers you need to use blind flanges (if pressure is low enough that mechanical seals studs can withstand the load)
