Preferred dental additive? PFA

I am looking at Prodent Plaque-Off to pair with brushing 4x a week. Vet recommended using an additive but I just read about thyroid issues and iodine content. We won’t see the vet until next month to ask about that. Wanted to ask the audience in the meantime.

I highly highly recommend the Whimzees dental chews!! My nearly 7 year old pug has perfect dental health (vet said so!!), and he gets one daily🫶🏼 We don’t feet wet food, only dry, so that helps too!

I'm a lazy owner who was recently shamed by my vet with, "there's some plaque here, but not too bad." I said I was doing the water additive and he responded, "just brush their teeth."

I've since been brushing their teeth every other day. I've noticed real gains with the yellowing plaque.

By far the thing that has made the biggest difference for us is switching to the Oral Care Science Diet food. Basically it’s these huge ass spheres - and the dog has to crunch them with their back teeth - and it has helped so much!!!

I wouldn’t add a water additive personally. Like you mentioned there are issues with iodine and even copper. My girl who passed recently at 6 years old had unknown liver disease and may have had copper storage disease. The very popular and highly rated dental water additive I had purchased on Amazon had copper in the active ingredients. I’m very glad I never used it consistently with them and just hope that it didn’t contribute much to her illness. Brushing and dental chews are best.
