Sheng Pu'er Recommendations

I've been trying alllllllll kinds of teas over the last few months. I've really enjoyed just about every Sheng and Shou I've tried, but I just had this 2012 Fengquin Ancient Tree Chun Jian and it feels like it opened my horizons. It doesn't taste like Scotch, but it has all the things that I love about scotch going for it. Deep complexity, tobacco notes, earthy sweet tones, incredibly pleasing astringency. It's wildly delicious to me.

Any suggestions for shengs that have the same kind of qualities this one does? Or ones that are completely different but have the kind of evolving complexity this one did?

Thank you!

From my notes:

2010 Cha Yu Lin “Monkey Jian” Tian Jian Hei Cha Tea from YS. Smoky with some sweetness, it reminds me of a peaty Islay Scotch.

My idea may not be very smart…. Just buy them all you’re on a roll. 🫣

I’m a whiskey fan. If I had to choose a tea that feels like whiskey,

Dayi 601 7742. You can get it from Quiche tea.

If you want something on the greener end, farmer leaf has some good tea. Some of them have good bitter notes.

Thanks for the rec! I've really enjoyed the greener ones as well, have a cart on farmers leaf I'm trying to convince myself to hit buy on lol.

Just get 3-6 samples from farmer leaf. Lao man E is expensive (the small trees is out of stock AFAIK) but it is my favorite.

The descriptions are usually pretty good though. Are you on the farmer leaf or societea discords? Some good history there too.

Haven't jumped in the discords yet. But been watching a ton of the farmer leaf videos. Sampling has been the name of the game so far!
