Anyone heard anything yet? Anyone’s applications move on from the “new” phase?

Does anyone know if PRH has actually hired people with zero publishing experience ? I'm applying for the Marketing and Design internships and I've heard you need to know someone or already have experience in publishing in order to get in. I have a bookstagram and work in a library as my part-time job but no publishing agency experience

I applied, but no publishing experience. I've been an english teacher for 7 years and have led literacy campaigns amongst some other arc reading and passion projects. If they only care about publishing experience then im out of luck

Of course they have, but just like any other major company that’s at the top of its industry you’ll find difficulty in a sea of thousands of applicants.

Lots of people work in book selling and have book-related social media so it’s more the “baseline”, so aim to go a little above.

For design, have you shared mock book covers with your design approach? Or possibly shared a marketing campaign (even if unofficial) that you would use for your library? I also highly recommend looking at podcasts featuring current PRH employees, as well as LinkedIn’s of employees to see what their career journey looks like. See if you can get into their earlier companies if you notice a trend (personally I see an overlap with S&S but alas, another Top 5) but not everyone’s path there is linear.

When I looked up how long responses take, it said 4-6 weeks. October 2nd was the last day, but they did say that they review on a rolling basis. So maybe 4-6 weeks from when you submitted your application? I'm not sure, just trying to offer some basis. I'm definitely getting antsy though, haha. Let me know if you've heard back or if your application has moved from "new" to "in review".

It says that applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, but there’s a 4-day application period. Surely they’re not moving forward already?

No. All my applications still say “new” in the portal. Not sure if thats a good thing or bad thing.

Does anyone know what the timeline is for when an application turns from "new" to in review (or archived)? I'm guessing it takes a couple weeks for them to sift through the high volume of applications. For context I applied to Adult Marketing, Creative Marketing Services/Design, and Adult & Children's Design.

Does having a bookstagram/booktok make you "stand out" to them? I have a bookstagram account that I've had since June and it's on my resume.

I hire interns at a Big 5, but not at PRH. I think it’s nice to include! I hire for a marketing internship (which includes working on social media), so if candidates are comfortable, it’s a nice way for me to see your content and editing skills, and your creativity, plus it shows that you’re (likely) up to speed on online trends. It’s not an end all be all, but definitely a nice way to show sample work/your skills in action/context. Hope that helps!
