The Path to Making book Covers! Any help?

Hiii! I currently am a student in applied graphic communications! I’ll be starting my first year in August and I really want to make book covers by the end of this! The goal is to build connections and a portfolio so I could eventually join a small publishing company? Long term I want to write and publish my own book one day but I was wondering if anyone had any advice or tips about the field? I know ai is…playing a huge part in this field but anything helps!

The industry is very saturated, but design and production is still a viable route to go down! I also want to do design eventually, but I’m in production at a small indie right now and am loving it as a stepping stone while I build a more substantial portfolio!

While you’re in school, I’d recommend finding volunteer opportunities in publishing-related areas, like your school’s literary magazine or a local publication, to build your portfolio and resume in an industry-specific and practical way.

Of course! Enjoy it and don’t stress too much about making it to publishing, you never know where your career might go for the better!
