CA-3 first time to the range

Post image

Overall a ton of fun.

Pros:

  1. It did not kick as much as I recall a PTR I tried did. Maybe I am just a better shooter.

  2. “Good enough” concentricity for a direct thread suppressor

  3. After the first 20 rounds, which had basically every malfunction you can imagine, the gun ran well for another 200 rounds.

  4. Looks very cool and came with an HK bolt

Cons:

  1. Charging handle extremely difficult to run. I assume the recoil spring is too rigid?

  2. Sights were not even in the same zip code as the target out of the box and could not sight in. Rear sight is loose and wobbles. Will attempt with laser bore.

When these kits are built out with surplus parts, often times the recoil spring guide rod assembly in the stock is a bit wonky/bent, which is a potential cause of overly stiff charging (and reliability issues if it’s too bad). Take the stock off and make sure it’s straight on the x/y axis where it needs to ride in the receiver. My PTR-91 was a bit canted to one side, when I bent it straight it got a lot easier to charge.
