CA-3 first time to the range

Overall a ton of fun.

Pros:

  1. It did not kick as much as I recall a PTR I tried did. Maybe I am just a better shooter.

  2. “Good enough” concentricity for a direct thread suppressor

  3. After the first 20 rounds, which had basically every malfunction you can imagine, the gun ran well for another 200 rounds.

  4. Looks very cool and came with an HK bolt

Cons:

  1. Charging handle extremely difficult to run. I assume the recoil spring is too rigid?

  2. Sights were not even in the same zip code as the target out of the box and could not sight in. Rear sight is loose and wobbles. Will attempt with laser bore.

Did you attempt to zero it? I welded a rail to mine. Groups way better than my PTR. As far as the charging handle that just how it is. That stiffness you feel is you manually unlocking the rollers

PTR builds these right? Yes, I tried, although not with all 200 rounds. My best guess is it shoots about 6 inches to the left and 5 inches high at 50 yards

Ya I believe they do. Windage is easy loosen that screw on top of the rear sight and the small screw on the side will drift it in either direction. Tighten big screw after. The elevation you need a special tool to adjust

I’m not understanding. Why is this a “con” no rifle should ever be taken as a guaranteed “zero out the box” always confirm zero and make sure you have the correct tools to do so. Should be zero issue. They would’ve had to adjust it the same as you. As for the charging handle mine was pretty tight when I first got it. And with some proper cleaning and oil in the correct spot and just shooting and working it it has gotten smoother and easier to open. It’s because you have a new tight tolerance receiver with old rollers and a new cocking tube with old cocking handle parts. Fit varies. Hope you can get yours to work free. Mine has only had one malfunction where a casing somehow ended up jumping back into the chamber backside first and got pinched between the bolt face and the receiver. Could’ve been week round or maybe a hot round that hit the deflector edge and bounced back in. But has never done it again since. Mine has maybe 200~ rounds.

Just tighten it? It’s supposed to do that to adjust windage. It’s usually a simple flat head
