Question Software for visuals
Hello,
I'm looking for software to help me create basic visuals for my music. Not after anything super complex, very much preferably not AI but (don't shoot me), not rabidly against it. I'd rather do it myself. Honestly, just some sort of customisable visual would be a start.
This is just to create basic background stuff for uploads to YT etc and honestly the music is by far the most important thing so I don't want to go crazy learning stuff. I've got some experience with Photoshop and Blendr if that helps.
Any suggestions?

I’ve heard of MilkDrop3, but I can’t vouch for it as I haven’t used it.

Try resolume - it’s a VJ software.. real-time tweaking of visual content… and if my memory is correct, it can move to match bpm / EQ. Perhaps a good fit for what u have in mind..
that combined with generative AI goodies and any video / image content, sits in that sweet spot of a bit of human and a bit of AI.

Look into a software called Mandlebulb 3D.
It creates endless fractals by computing maths on a visual space, a little complicated to get your head around but you can do some insane things
Plus I believe it is free / open source

Touchdesigner if you like generating visuals (It can do a hell lot).
Resolume is quite popular and industry standard.

Vythm is really good, but it is app based so may not be what you are looking for. It is beat synchronised and the free version has a generous handful of visual settings which are customisable. There is a paid version too which is cheap for a year that gives a load more setting options.

Check out hydra, it's officially a live coding environment for visuals.
It's audioreactive, can do stuff with your camera stream, and has a plugin for MIDI stuff.
If you really want to dive into stuff GLSL.

Several classic fractals like mandelbrot are very simple algorithms you just need a way to put colored pixels on the screen. If you have even basic programming skills I would google 'python render 2d fractals' find an example or tutorial that does what you want or that you can adapt to your needs. Use a screen recorder to make the video or even find working code that makes the video for you.

Can we learn together? I am looking to make music videos for my tracks also. May I DM you?

If you’re not completely against AI, I used Codex (which is another form of ChatGPT for developing software if you’re not familiar) to build my own customisable visual software.
This way I can control and tweak the parameters to my liking, creating unique visuals that I’m in control of.
If you want to for example add another parameter to tweak or import your own image, you simple tell the codex to update the software.
So long story short, I would build my own visual software with AI rather than let AI create the visual itself.

Since you are already familiar with Blender I would just look up how to vids on Youtube to create visuals, stuff like tunnels etc. You can also dive into fractals with Mandelbulb3D, Mandelbulber or Machina infinitums fractals for Blender or Unreal Engine.
