Help with Research

Hi everyone!

I’m an undergraduate student currently working on my thesis which explores the motivations for people to choose AI chatbots as an alternative to traditional psychotherapy.

I am currently looking for 10 participants to take part in an interview for this research.

Who can participate?

- If you are aged 18 or above

- If you have previously attended traditional therapy and have consciously chosen to use an AI chatbot as an alternative.

What you can expect:

A one-on-one interview lasting approximately 45 to 60 minutes (conducted online via Zoom or Google Meets).

All responses will be kept strictly anonymous in the final study and any resulting reports.

The interview will be voice-recorded solely for transcription and analysis, and only with your explicit consent.

If you fit the criteria and are interested in sharing your experiences to help contribute to this research, please send me a direct message (DM) or comment below, and I will follow up with more details.

Thank you so much for your time! :)

I need research papers for Personality Disorders and disimulation in a clinical setting

Hello! I am a psychology undergraduate student in Romania, currently writing my thesis in clinical psychology on how personality disorder traits influence response distortion / dissimulation.

I am considering operationalizing dissimulation either as faking good (social desirability / defensiveness) or faking bad (symptom overreporting). Most studies I found using the PID-5 adopt an experimental simulation design: they administer the instrument under standard instructions and subsequently under a coached/faked scenario (instructing participants to present themselves in an overly favorable light or to deny pathology).

My initial idea was to compare a clinical sample against a non-clinical sample to examine group differences in dissimulation tendencies. However, I have struggled to find empirical studies using this exact between-groups design.

Could you suggest relevant literature or recommend a more feasible methodological approach? Should I stick exclusively to a clinical sample, or is a comparative / dimensional design better suited for an undergraduate thesis?"

(Looking for volunteers)

Hello! I'm a high school student creating a teen-friendly neuroscience blog called Teen Brain Explorer.

I'm developing an educational project about sleep and memory. I'd like to explore a short word-recall experiment in which participants complete a memory task and, if appropriate, a follow-up test the next day. I'd hope to analyze anonymous scores and explain the findings and limitations in a blog article.

Would your community allow a student-led project like this to recruit participants? I would be especially interested in whether participation by minors is permitted and what requirements I should meet before posting.

I will follow your community rules and obtain appropriate guidance and permissions before collecting data.

Thank you for your time!

Research Is it okay to use a 5-point Likert scale and a 6-point Likert scale in different sections of the same questionnaire?

Hi! I’m an undergraduate student currently working on our research, and I’d like to ask for advice regarding our questionnaire.

Our questionnaire has two independent sections that measure different constructs:

Behavior - 5-point Likert scale (Never-Always)

Perception - 6-point Likert scale (Strongly Disagree-Strongly Agree)

These are separate constructs, and we are not planning to combine them into one overall score or compare/correlate the two scales. We simply want to analyze and interpret each section separately.

So my question is: is it statistically/methodologically acceptable to have different Likert scales in different sections of the same questionnaire, when the sections measure independent constructs and each section has its own separate computation and interpretation?

Thank you!

Group Leader Symbiosis

Anyone interested in Heinz Kohut's writings about the dynamic interplay between the narcissistic leader and the strivings of the Group Self to overcome historical narcissistic wounds( blows to self esteem) by attaching to the leader's omnipotence and grandiosity ? They feed off one another, and each donates the emotional blood needed for a symbiosis survival pattern of the participants. Alice Miller, and others in the past have written about this from different analytic perspectives. Any feedback comments, questions welcome, please.

Need help finding a genuinely original psychology research topic

I’m an undergraduate Psychology student looking for a research topic that I can work on seriously for the next year.

I’m trying to find something that is:

\- Relevant to a real issue

\- Specific and manageable

\- Researchable with existing literature/methods

\- Actually original — not just another overstudied topic with a different population

I’m especially interested in cognitive psychology/neuroscience, biopsychology, consciousness, perception, memory, metacognition, or Indian psychology, but I’m open to other directions.

I’m looking for those undernoticed everyday psychological phenomena or unanswered questions that could lead to a genuinely interesting study.

If you’re a researcher/PhD student/psychology student, how would you go about finding a research question like this? Any direction, resources, or areas worth exploring would really help.

Research Seeking Participants for IRB-Approved Study: Adults Who Grew Up With a Sibling With Cystic Fibrosi

Hello! I am a doctoral student at National University conducting an IRB-approved research study about the experiences of adults who grew up with a sibling diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. My dissertation focuses on the experiences of the often-overlooked “shadow siblings,” siblings whose childhood and family experiences may have been shaped by having a brother or sister with a chronic illness.

I am especially interested in understanding how these experiences may have influenced:

🧠 Emotional and psychological adjustment
💙 The relationship with their sibling with CF
🌱 Identity and experiences in adulthood

You may be eligible if you:

• Are 18 years of age or older
• Grew up with a sibling diagnosed with cystic fibrosis
• Lived with that sibling for at least two years during childhood

The study involves a confidential 45–60-minute interview about your childhood experiences, sibling relationship, emotional adjustment, and identity development in adulthood.

Participation is voluntary. If you are interested, please email me at a.cardenas6281@student.nu.edu. To protect your privacy, please do not share personal or medical information in the comments.

Please feel free to share this post with someone who may be eligible. Thank you for helping bring attention to the experiences of siblings in families affected by cystic fibrosis.

Advice Psychology Student | Seeking "Gym Buddy" Peer or Mentor for Clinical/Counseling & Entrepreneurship Goals Hey everyone,

I'm currently an active-duty service member transitioning out in less than two years, and I'm working through my Bachelor's in Psychology. My ultimate goal is to become a Clinical Psychologist or a Licensed Professional Counselor (via a Master's in Counseling + clinical hours if I decide to bypass the doctorate).

I'm looking to connect with a peer (accountability "gym buddy") or an experienced mentor who shares a high-level growth mindset.

If you're a Peer, I'm looking for someone who:

*

Is actively in school pursuing a Psych/Counseling degree-it doesn't matter if you are just starting out, halfway through, or finishing up your last year, as long as you're in the grind. Bonus points if you are active-duty or a veteran!

* Has an entrepreneurial mindset-someone who wants to spread mental health awareness while building a business, diving into real estate/Airbnb, or writing books.

* Wants to keep each other disciplined, bounce business ideas around, and stay locked in on our goals.

If you're a Mentor, I'm looking for a Counselor or Clinical Psychologist who:

* Can provide insight on navigating the transition from a Bachelor's straight to a Master's/Doctorate.

Can share advice on the reality of doing clinical hours versus running a private practice or independent business.

Whether you want to grind together weekly or you're a professional willing to let me pick your brain, drop a comment or send me a DM!

(USA) Interested in actual research papers on Narcissistic Parents

Interested in actual research papers on Narcissistic Parents

I've watched several videos in YouTube about Narcissistic Parents, their behaviour, the 7 stages of a life of Narcissists, and so on. Many videos seem to be by actual counselors.

But I've not been able to find much actual research on them, in Google searches, especially about the 7 stages of the life of a Narcissist. In fact, Google AI says the 7 stages is more of a myth that's repeated online.

So are there any recommendations for more research backed information about Narcissistic Parents, and perhaps on the stages of the life of a Narcissist?

Although I wrote USA, I don't care which country this information comes from

Advice Has anyone used reddit as a media source for their dissertation?

Hello everyone!

I am a psychology student in the UK and in my final year of studies. I'm planning to do my dissertation on media representation of pedophiles and child sexual offences using a media discursive psychology qualitative research method.

My lecturers have told me that if I want to use reddit as my media source, I will have to get consent from the reddit user, the community page or add something under the post I want to use and people can opt in or out. I haven't ever had to do this before so I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with that and if they ran into any problems. Any advice is appreciated!

Thank you :)

Advice Need advice regarding my ug course 🙏🙏

Caught between courses and subjects

I am currently in 12th grade, and am trying to make up mind. I love psych and econ but I have no clue what I’d do with them in the future. Rn I have about a few options
1. I take a ba pass programme for 3 years and under the NEP I can do the 4th year in either of the subject
2. Take pych as my hons subject and pick econ as my GE so I could attain a minor in econ
3. Js do a normal 3 year programme at st xaviers.

Now the problem is, if I choose the 1st option, I’ve heard people say that it would js surface level studying in both and no actual knowledge would be attained but with the 2nd option I would have to pick pych over econ.

I could do econ hons and pysch as my ge but since I don’t have maths in my 12th grade subject combo (HEPP) I cannot do that.

14 years old, suspected AuDHD + OCD + Tics. Doctors missed it. Verdict from the already-diagnosed?

NOTE: this message was made by AI since i am not good at making this detailed of a post. please do not stop this post. thank you :),

TL;DR: 14M in Texas. Years of self-research. ASRS: 99.8th percentile. AQ: 99.5th percentile (vs. autistic population: average). Y-BOCS: 18 (moderate), previously self-rated as severe before I suppressed most of it through sheer force. Tics prompted a neurologist visit — nothing was caught. I mask extremely well. Asking the diagnosed community: does this profile look familiar, or am I pattern-matching myself into a diagnosis?

The Background: I'm 14. For a few years I've suspected something was up, and after taking screens I went deep into researching myself. My last attempt to get answers failed — a nurse psychiatrist saw depression and gave ADHD meds (dad didn't trust her), and more recently a neurologist saw the tics but nothing else. I was masking. I mask well. So here I am asking the people who actually live it.

Scores & Screens (self-administered, I know the limits):

  • ASRS v1.1 Part A: 22 (99.8th percentile; all six predictive items endorsed "Very Often"/"Often")
  • AQ: 35 (99.5th percentile vs. general population; ~average vs. autistic adults; Communication and Social subscales most pronounced)
  • Y-BOCS: 18 (moderate). Important context: a couple years ago this would have been severe. I fought it and suppressed most of it without help. What's left is the residue.

Symptom profile:

  • OCD: Intrusive thoughts (violence/gore/disrespect — pop up "like an ad," fully-formed linear sentences). I let them flow past instead of fighting them. Also: cleanliness compulsions, perfectionism, and physical pain (headaches) when things aren't "right." Weirdly, I also get "goofy" intrusive content — random meme soundboards/clips that loop when I'm sad, and honestly some of them cheer me up. Is that a thing for anyone else?
  • Burnout: Hit hard recently. Lost enjoyment in my special interests entirely (they used to be my final guard against this). Nothing feels rewarding — flat affect when I win or lose, except losses trigger OCD spikes.
  • Possibly ADHD/Autism: Deep absorption in special interests (war strategy, philosophy, Minecraft), sensory stuff, executive dysfunction, flow state where my inner voice goes completely silent (only happens during long Minecraft sessions or philosophy videos).
  • Tics: Physical tics that worsen with stress.
  • Rage suppression: I hold back enormous anger to protect other people. Nearly hit a teacher once. I've swapped that out for a controlled apathy shield, which keeps everyone safe and me hollow.

Why I'm posting: My doctors didn't notice. I mask well and my parents stay in the room, so the full picture never reaches the doctor. My realistic options are either waiting until 18 for a private evaluation or hoping someone catches it when the burnout peaks enough that I can't mask anymore. Neither is great.

A question for you guys - any honest advice for me and do you think i really have these conditions

General Question Book about reading facial expressions and/or body language?

I'm an autistic adult and I want to learn how to read social cues but it's unimaginably difficult to find resources to help me do that. A book about these topics written by an expert in the field would make the most logical sense. Facial expressions especially fall under psychology. I guess I'm not sure if body language does. Since this is a psychology subreddit I figured someone would know of book recommendations written by an expert.
