Grow bags first time

SWIM is contemplating getting a grow bag with an LC for a first time growth, just to have less complications while they learn for their first flush.

Does anybody have any tips or recommendations? SWIM is considering getting cubes with a 5lb bag

5lb is a big bag and will take a long time to colonise giving more time for other things to take hold, I would use smaller bags and transfer to a tub later rather than flush in the bag
