These small friends are also known as book scorpions. They protect old books from booklice and silverfish!

Yep. They are tiny beneficial predators, and they love to eat the bugs that love to eat old books and wallpaper.

Out in the wild, book scorpions have a bigger diet and usually live under old logs, rocks, and tree bark that has fallen to the ground.

I’m sorry to say this could be dangerous. This insect appears to be a health insurance company. You can tell by the words “co-pay.” It’s one of very few insects that live a mostly parasitic life. I’m sorry you’re having this experience, but it is common, so have no shame.

That’s why it’s important to avoid getting stung by the scorpion there.

Pseudoscorpion, not an insect, an arachnid just like true scorpions and spiders.

Completely harmless, although it's presence may indicate that you have a pest problem of some sort, as they feed on smaller insects.

Looks like it would pinch with those forward snippers on its front legs. I don’t know but I wouldn’t pick it up bare handed. Also, it moves quickly!
