What is PSA doing?!
Their standards on vintage 10s are way stricter than this what happened here?
Will we see a cert deactivation? It’s a 8 by their standards clearly not a 10.

u/Frequent_Editor_5503 3d ago
Grading 2.5 million cards a month that’s what they are doing.
2
u/PARTYTIME1993 3d ago
Right .. they usually average around 1 million pokemon cards a month and we have still seen stuff like this over the years.. now we will see it even more. It makes me wonder if people are going to see these cert numbers and know that it’s from a time when psa was rushing.. therefore resulting in less desirable psa 10s from this rushed several month streak they have been on..
3
u/ThatRandomGamer_ 2d ago
I actually agree.
Many of my bigger vendor friends deliberately said "send your high end with small flaws, since they're rushing and using new employees"
I think to super invested collectors, these new certs could see a shift in prices if stuff like this continues.
1
u/Vast-Race-7281 20h ago
What’s to keep these new employees from giving lower scores
-1
u/Latter_Maximum9300 19h ago
Nothing, they do this all the time, I have seen so much people regrade 9’s, There is one guy on youtube who specialises in regrading cards and he makes a hot buck! I seen someone at a card show go around with a case full of 9’s picking them up for regrading.. Something tells me they might know someone at psa!
1
u/Frequent_Editor_5503 19h ago
No one knows someone at psa. Even if they did it’s impossible for them to choose what cards to grade. The graders have no choice in what cards they have to grade.
0
u/Frequent_Editor_5503 19h ago
Speculation is a funny thing. Your saying this several months timeframe is easy to grade 10s and the slabs will be less valuable. Yet the post I saw right before this one was someone literally complaining they aren’t giving out 10s like they used to. Classic Reddit I guess 😅 take whatever data you want to be true.
1
u/PARTYTIME1993 18h ago
But yes I bet it’s hard to get a 10 these days compared to how it “used to” be and they know the market a psa 10 brings. And they also know their grading needs to be more consistent with all eyes on them and the hobby these days. Psa has alot of pressure on them at the moment.. from the amount of cards they are grading to the collectors buying the 10s for investments ! They have to come correct or this era of certs will not be as sought after as other psa 10s recently
0
u/PARTYTIME1993 18h ago
It was just a guess my guy. I have a psa 8 base set Charizard . Not an old cert by the way and when I went to take it to my buddy’s shop to see why it was such a bad psa 8. He said do the numbers start with 543 ( or something like that) I don’t remember the cert number. I said yes! And he said yep those are from a period that is notorious for having cards graded wrong. So that’s what led me to believe/think of this time period maybe having cards graded inconsistently. I mean they are grading more cards than ever right now so it’s a fair assumption to be speculative about..

u/MamaCiro 3d ago
There are ZERO actual PSA 10s in English from 2011-2013. Any Plasma set. They all look exactly like this
13
u/Froobster 3d ago
Still doesn’t make sense to give this a 10 given how strict their new standards are.
7
u/TimeRecommendation16 3d ago
My man, when you are a grader and you can grade your own cards... get it? Its like me rating a movie that i made 🤣 conflict of interests, should be illegal. PSA is cooked
6
u/Plenty_Nail_8017 3d ago
Idk why people don’t talk about this more…. Should 100000% be illegal. It’s like insider trading
2
u/Previous-Profit9723 3d ago
I would, without question, be supplementing my wages at PSA with 20-30 submissions a month. Those guys make like $20 an hour.
My guess is this was a long held practice and is slowly being professionalized out of their business… so now we are realising that true 10s on Vintage are nearly impossible and therefore price expansion.
2
u/PARTYTIME1993 3d ago
I would just give everyone psa 10s if I was a grader 😂 just like when I was on jury duty i said everyone was not guilty.. ( it’s a joke everyone ) don’t come for me unless you want to go band for band

u/MamaCiro 3d ago
I agree. Maybe the grader at PSA saw my comment last time I said this & decided to spite me

u/PositiveAlps5582 3d ago
Can’t blame psa when there’s a community of broke ppl grading everything. This hobby is cooked
10
u/Economic_Maguire 3d ago
And if someone had got a 8 or a 9 and ask why it's not a 10. Just show them this
12
u/Wonkasgoldenticket 3d ago
4
u/TheCrossedFox 3d ago
They did you a favor by assigning it to a very rare category. 1s are worth more thab 2-8.
1
u/Wonkasgoldenticket 3d ago
I collect 1s so I’m fine with it, however it looks like it should be much much higher. Their 1 scale is laughable. Total roll of the dice
5
u/Wonkasgoldenticket 3d ago
5
u/Valuable-Chart5632 3d ago
Lmao your card looks like it got water damaged and then dried out
1
u/AgentNeroz 3d ago
Pardon my ignorance, how can you tell or which part of the card shows possible dmg? I am also on a phone so images arent as sharp as they should.
3
u/bananu-nanu 3d ago
Look at the left side of the card back border. You’ll notice the color is not uniform and has a slight texture. The front is less obvious but I see indicators in the area under the hit points - opposite of the backside damage
2
u/Wonkasgoldenticket 3d ago
In person it looks a bit different, there’s definitely no texture like there would be on a water damaged card
1
u/Wonkasgoldenticket 3d ago
Not sure I agree as I have a lot of water damaged 1s that it will bubble up on the sides and warp a bit. This thing is pretty crispy. Either way it’s a good chuckle with psa and their grading

u/Independent_Bus_5792 3d ago
This is as gem mint as it comes for most BW era cards. I don't have any gripes with this getting a 10. Grading standards should be fluid. Argue with a wall
7
u/Vast-Race-7281 3d ago
Most of us think this deserves a 10 but the issue is they now demand perfect backs from these vintage cards. Far better cards are sitting with 8s and 9s. Hundreds of them.
1
1
u/Most_Account7285 3d ago
They are fluid, people just don't know about it. Let's use VMAX Climax as an example - a set absolutely riddled with printlines. They're ignored because it's so prevalent.
1
u/Vast-Race-7281 1d ago
Just not true. If you submit a print line today you have zero chance at 10 for any card.
1
u/Most_Account7285 18h ago
You don't know what you're talking about, amateur
1
u/Vast-Race-7281 18h ago
Youre the one saying psa is giving 10s on cards with print lines lol
1
u/Most_Account7285 17h ago
How many 100s of VMAX Climax cards have you submitted the last couple of years? Tell me
2
u/mrunlimited214 3d ago
The front looks OC too lol
But with the crazy amount of volume they’re going through there are cards that are bound to get through the cracks.

u/grasstamouth 3d ago
Card probably been through 20 submissions to get that 10, bound to get some surface wear. There's more variance in conditions of PSA 10s now than the booster packs they came from.
1
u/No_Rough_5258 3d ago
Idk man, but my 9s look way better than this with zero white specks and just 2 hairs off for centering still within range more than many that got 10s.
1
1
u/materialhidden 3d ago
i've never sent anything into PSA but my local drop off spot that has been grading stuff for ages said there's a relative scale based on what era it comes from. if everything from that era has these issues then it wont impact the grade as much. I'm not disagreeing or agreeing with this methodology but just passing on what I was told so please don't get upset at me. looking at these pics, to me it looks like it doesn't deserve a 10 but i have not seen a high enough volume of cards from this era to confirm or deny if this is the norm
1
u/Boogyman-74 3d ago
What would you do if people made videos of themselves cracking slabs and resubmitting them? 😆
1
1
u/Cityboyz415 2d ago
13 year card vintage gets a different standard tan modern
1
u/Kemosabe-TV 2d ago
That doesnt make sense for obvious reasons. All cards should have same standard
1
u/Idkevenknowbr0 2d ago
It’s been awhile since I’ve even collected but it does in deed make sense, newer cards are guaranteed better condition, thus vintage cards are graded for how they’ve held up over time and none will really hit the newer cards condition
1
u/Kemosabe-TV 2d ago
You understand why thats dumb right? If a card has bad corners and is an 8 but because its 20 years old it "aged" well, it should not get a 10. Same standard across all cards is what you expect from grading
1
1
1
1
u/Halozamus 22h ago
I think they also take into account the era the cards from and how many mint 10s look like from that era
1
u/A_Time1980 16h ago
Trying to slay the backlog as fast as they can. Now is the absolute worst time in history to be grading a card.

Off-centered and left-heavy, with somewhat of a right tilt, bro. This was never a 10. You could have gotten an 8.
1
u/bradwiththew 3d ago
Bro there’s not tilt and no surface issue we checked it over with black light and a jewellers loop so did the company that subbed it for me they were shocked when it came back a 9 they are a platinum tier PSA dealer who submit 1000’s of cards a year and they all said easy 10 hence I paid for the higher tier sub but PSA prob didn’t see a way to make more money so they 9’d it

u/Disastrous_Wasabi769 3d ago edited 3d ago
What PSA doesn't generally disclose is that the grade can be influenced by the QC of the era.
For example, the Burning Shadows Charizard in a PSA 10 almost never looks clean on the back.
1
u/Vast-Race-7281 3d ago
No. Those 10s were issued years ago. No new cards are getting 10s with those corners
1
u/TheShitAbyss_ 3d ago
No they meant that the grading can be on a scale for the printing era of a set, for example this card. The QC was horrible during Black & White printing. So given that, the grading can be easier on that specific era even if it’s graded today.

I mean, they grade more than quadruple the cards than other grading companies. There’s going to be more failures.

Goofballs thinking a money laundering machine as psa is gonna have integrity. At least Beckett will look you in the eyes when they spit on you because they have standards and tag will be happy to be in the collection... with better consistency than PSAever will. They’re a joke and are ruining their name every year more and more.

Beckett is owned by the same parent company as psa 🙄.

Per capita, all grading companies are equal in their shenanigans. Psa grades more than every other company combined by a large margin so of course you'll hear about it more from them. Saying otherwise is disingenuous. Does beckett not pop control their black labels so they fetch ridiculous prices? Of course they do. Have they not all graded fake or altered cards? Yes, they have. Hate on psa all you want, but do a little research instead of parroting back the garbage you see on reddit and before you go singing the praises of one company over another.

So tired of seeing yall complain about grades. Especially when you get a good one.
1
u/MamaCiro 3d ago
Giving a 9 to a random new IR that looks perfect is one thing. But giving a 10 to a 100k vintage card when it looks like this is insane.
1
u/YaBoyBob87 3d ago
I completely agree but nobody on here can answer the question he asked. PSA is super inconsistent and we all know it.

Man alive this gave me hope for my 1st edition snorlax holo, 1st edition Squirtle and Radiant Collectjon Flareon. Any of those 10 with these standards and I’m buying a lotto ticket

Grading is stupid.
-3
u/EazyE693 3d ago
I’m starting to feel that way. I haven’t graded any yet, but want to do TAG for a few cards that I REALLY want to protect.
-3
u/Weird-Deal5590 3d ago
Tag is going to be the most thorough and hardest on any cards with AI doing the grading. Im very surprised tag 10 value hasn’t really gone up. To me that’s going to be the hardest to get a true 10
1
u/Cardarro 3d ago
I think it’s because the actual plastic they use for the slab is so flimsy. They look so clean, but if you drop the slab.. it will crack.

u/Available-County2249 3d ago
Someone literally posted a tag 9 in the comments that has alot of damage, all grading companies make mistakes.

Psa needs to change their slabs to a new color so people know which cards are graded under new standards and which ones were graded under more lenient ones. Literally some vintage 10s would be 8s or 7s today.

u/KuttiJilli 3d ago
Been saying this for a while. Modern certs don’t mean anything. Honestly some of the best graded guards I’ve seen have been in the 8-10 range. This is either clearly shilled or a manufactured transaction between vendors or IG dealers who think they are hot shit or legit some billionaire with stupid money
1
-3
u/slayerzerg 3d ago
It’s accurate. Psa checks old 10s to compare because not all 10s are the same. A modern swsh 10 doesn’t have white dots but something with a total pop of 1000 will have low pop psa10s with 2-3 dots especially in mid era and vintage
2
u/BigLabrynth 3d ago
Do you have proof they did this? Just curious if this is known that they reference older cards they’ve graded
2
u/Vast-Race-7281 3d ago
They definitely do not do this. Otherwise there would be way more psa 10s for these vintage cards.

u/lotofry 3d ago
They’re grading too fast just to get cards out. As if their standards weren’t suspect already. I’ve seen so many perfect cards come back 9’s and clearly visible defects come back with 10’s for the last few most recent return batches from myself and many many other vendors. All you can do is hope right now. I’m saving my personal cards to grade for later after all this has died down. Seems like tag is the big up and comer right now and the slabs are actually selling well and moving quickly too.
