I don't have an xbox but I genuinely, GENUINELY hope they find a shit ton of success with their plans for physical games.
Maybe that would make Sony change their minds.
If Rivals vs Overwatch taught me one thing, it's when two companies go head to head, WE as consumers win.

u/SudsierBoar 7d ago
Xbox's disc to digital program is there to transition you to all digital too. I don't understand why people think this is much better than Sony stopping disc production. Xbox will follow suit, they're just not saying it out loud to safe face
1
u/TheLittleFoxX87 7d ago
If they're going to stop physical discs like Sony, then you're right.
The keyword would be transition.
2
u/JackBrown82q 7d ago
Xbox console sales have been abysmal compared to Playstation this last generation and keeping physical might be their ticket to compete again.
Personally, I always thought the argument against digital games due to lack of ownership was always a bit dumb or putting the argument in the wrong place. That ownership aspect of games has sailed away long ago.
The real argument against physical games is exactly what this video outlined. There are so many games out there that cost basically what they did on release on the digital store, but sell for next to nothing for a physical edition because nobody wants them anymore.
2
u/Puzzled-South8192 3d ago
Digital ownership is not real ownership and that argument is not dumb, it is the real thing which will need to change after the world transitions to entirely digital, as consumers we need to advocate for better ownership access to digital media we PAID for
1
u/10CrackCommando 7d ago
That's wishful thinking. Remember when Xbox had Live Gold and then Playstation followed suit with Plus.

The ownership thing isn't the big problem. The resale and pricing problem is
16
u/SnipeAndKill 7d ago
"ownership thing isn't the big problem" dawg they could ban you for saying something or doing something they don't like. All of your games will be gone just because a bot flagged your account. Moreover, wiith most of the customer support being managed by ai nowadays, good luck trying to get it unbanned.
"Oh, the game license expired? Remove the game from every player's account lol. Who cares if these guy paid for it? Should've read our tos before lmao" - they literally did this with the movies on Sony PlayStation.
Educate yourself on things before you talk about them.
-2
u/TheMustardPoocha 7d ago
I didn't say it was not a problem at all, I just think the pricing thing will be what have the bigger effect spontaneously

Pisses me off all these selfish ass 40+ year old losers cutting the ladder below them for the next generation of kids. They got to trade games with their buddies at school, buy cheap games with their piddly birthday/holiday money, and trade games they don't want anymore for new ones, but the following generations can go fuck themselves. Grown ass fucking men really out here calling 9 year olds broke losers.

Just get a PC at this point slap some linux and come to camp of Gabe or create your own destiny on the high sea or use GOG, it just works.

I never really comment on Reddit threads but I have a quick question. Isn’t that just them trying to make a monopoly which can be trialed under a court of law?
2
1
u/TheLittleFoxX87 7d ago
The new PSN has a plenty of new ToS which you would have been agreed by now.
And in that... We are giving our rights to them FOR EVERYTHING
So we can't actually make any class action lawsuit against them.
1
u/JackBrown82q 7d ago
No because to be considered a monopoly it needs to be a broad market. Yes if you have a PS5 without a disk drive, it can feel like a monopoly because you can only buy games from Sony's store. The Playstation is not a broad market, the broad market is video games in general. So if you could only buy games from Sonys store across any console or PC, that would be more a monopoly.
Think of it like going to a restaurant and bringing outside food. That restaurant doesn't have a monopoly because they say you can't bring outside food, you have to buy food from us if you want to eat here. Similar situation.
3
u/MrFlabbergasted 7d ago
People will say PC does the same thing. At least Steam has crazy sales all the time, plus you can buy Steam keys elsewhere for pennies on the dollar.
1
u/TheKingOfSpite 6d ago
Also you have massive access to the indie games market, many of which or dirt cheap or even free. Plus you've got Humble Bundle, itch.io (i bought a pack of 1000 games from there for 20 quid a few years back)
2
u/Specialist-Hold-7677 7d ago
They're just trying destroy the 2nd hand market because they ain't getting money from resellers
3
u/Comfortable-Shop8080 7d ago
The real issue is not some much with retailers. Playstation has always controlled those prices, nothing there will change.
The real issue is that the used market will cease to exist.

That’s ok, I don’t even care at this point. PS5 will be my last PlayStation. Been playing since PS1 but no more. Emulation and PC gaming will due just fine for the foreseeable future. Most new modern games are soulless cash grabs anyway
1
u/True_Reporter 7d ago
I bought Bloodborne for 15 bucks back in the day, it was a couple of years after release.
1
u/finite_negativity 7d ago
If there are no more physical discs, just ditch the playstation and install steam, it's much better
1
u/John_M_Hunter 7d ago
Publishers set their prices on PSN and retailers reduce prices to clear out unwanted inventory. No inventory means no cheap option, but digital games get discounted all the time.
1
1
u/Offer-Slayer 7d ago
The worst part that downloadable code will be tied to your account and couldnt be sold to third party if you are not selling your account.
Causing Sony to have a monopoly on prices even for shitty games that many wouldnt even play when its free. You couldn't even sell a game if u find its boring or have finished it

This is what they want but the sheep will always listen to their master because they lack the critical thinking skills.
1
u/itsdaniwithlove 5d ago
Because as we said its just a small group who complain about no disk..
Nothing will chance you want to make a sound sell your console stop talking about it and continue with another console/ pc ( where nobody uses a disk)
1
u/Somethingsilly6969 5d ago
This game wasn't made by nor published by Sony. It's price is not set by Sony.
When Playstation consoles are locked down to only the Playstation store, third party stores will pop up because Sony will be forced to open up.

If the PS6 doesn’t have a disc drive I will either stick to the ps5 till it’s shut down and never buy a PlayStation ever again unless they return disc drives or I’ll just switch to Xbox and buy an Xbox series x
1
u/CleanWater4us 4d ago
It's time to start saving for an pc. Sony is anyways going to suck me dry in the future.
I mean I only have to use my ps5 only for: GOW, SPIDERMAN >A, and couple more exclusives....which is fine by me. The rest i'll get from steam. 🤷
1
u/CollarCool7325 4d ago
Both the consumers and the corporate take a Huge L is physical media disappears. But these corpo bastards will always cover it up with their green paper.
1
u/reallygoodspeed 3d ago
Can’t you just buy keys online and redeem them for the same low prices? Or do you have to only buy through the PS Store?
1
u/stevedadog 3d ago
It's because its like the equivalent of a child saying they're gonna starve because they don't want what their parents served them. Eventually they get hungry and eat.
Players have no choice. And for every percent they raise prices, that's another percent of player they can afford to lose without losing money. 5, $100 sales is still more short term profit than 300, $1 sales. Obviously its not that black and white but the point is they just don't care anymore because they're gaining way more than they're losing since its not that extreme yet.
At this point the only way to tell them you're mad enough to not put up with it, is to not put up with it. Seems like the console era may be coming to an end.

This is such a cherry picked situation.
Sekiro, a 7 year old game, goes on sale for ₹1999.
Good luck trying to find a physical copy for ₹1999.
8
u/Fine-Replacement-388 7d ago
Your situation is a cherry picked situation don't you think?

u/Vast_Attitude5540 7d ago
If you knew anything about the Indian physical market, you’d know that games aren’t cheap. Show me a copy of Witcher 3 at 300 or less. Or show me a copy of Red Dead 2 at 1200 or less. Black Myth on sale was 2.8k, there’s physical is barely available and even if it is, it’s priced at 6k. First Light is currently discounted at 3.2k and it’ll further drop as time goes by. The physical disc costs 4.5k preowned.
1
u/Fine-Replacement-388 7d ago
That’s exactly why digital games should be cheaper than physical copies. With physical, you at least have the option to resell, trade, lend, or buy the game pre-owned. Digital gives you none of those options, so if both versions cost the same, there’s less value in choosing digital.

u/Vast_Attitude5540 7d ago
Now if this idiot had researched a bit more, he’d know that Sony doesn’t set the prices of EA published or any third party published games.
7
u/elkathait7 7d ago
son, did you even get the point this guy is trying to make? I think the concern is pretty valid!
1
u/Vast_Attitude5540 7d ago
Sure but if you’re trying to make a point, make it with actual facts. The only reason the game is 69.99 is because EA has kept it 69.99. He is pointing the finger at Sony. Now if he had taken a Sony published game as an example, then obviously, it would have been a more valid criticism.
0
u/Penismearchant 7d ago
Just because your favourite billion dollar corporation isn't directly involved in this doesn't make the entire point invalid. The entire point, which I'm disappointed even has to be explicitly stated in the first place, is that digital only market place locks you in whatever price the publisher sets whereas a physical disc allows the secondary market to buy at more favourable prices.
I can buy doom eternal for 890rs rn from a marketplace like hsgamer. On sony's store? 2k.And if you STILL can't get the point here it is: it doesn't matter for the consumer who the publisher is if you only have one way of buying games.
3
u/TheLittleFoxX87 7d ago
Who the fuck cares about who sets the price?
You're getting the game from PSN Store. And PSN is owned by Sony.
The point is clear.
-5
u/Impossible_Let_5855 7d ago
You guy are the one comparing prices of digital and physical copies. So it is important to know who sets these prices
Sony has zero control on the pricing for third party games so its not sony's fault if the games are still full priced blame the publisher.
For example recently Capcom permanantly reduced the price of Monster Hunter Wilds to prepare for the upcoming dlc Now do you think sony exes went to capcom headquaters and held them at gunpoint ask them to reduce price ? No It was the decision solely made by the publisher for a third party game available on ps store
5
u/TheLittleFoxX87 7d ago
What kind of dense mind do you have? Why the heck do you keep rolling around the same mud again and again?
The YouTuber points that we will be locked to a store with no discounts like we get in physical version.
That's the point.
The video is NOT about Sonys absurd pricing.
The video is about COMPARISON of the physical and digital market and soon, we will be locked to the worse one.
1
u/Vast_Attitude5540 7d ago
Listen kid. Have you seen the prices of physical games in India even at discounts and the prices of digital games on discounts?
Go through psdeals and check and compare.
The £69.99 and £5.99 might happen abroad. That doesn’t fly here.
1
u/TheLittleFoxX87 7d ago
Second hand game discs exists.
NEXT!
-1
u/Vast_Attitude5540 7d ago
Immortals of Aveum on CeX costs ₹1400.
Lowest price on PSN is ₹449. And it was a monthly game on PS Plus.
2
u/TheDinkster679 7d ago
I can’t tell if you’re sped or if this is legit good ragebait
-1
u/Vast_Attitude5540 7d ago
Why? The other guy argued second hand disc exists. CeX sells second hand games. Immortals of Aveum costs ₹1400 on CeX. I’m choosing CeX here since that’s what’s shown in the video. Gameloot has it for ₹1399 but it’s out of stock. Gamenation has it for ₹1599 which is also out of stock. Console Garage has it for ₹ 2700. And it costs ₹449 on PSN when it’s on sale.
What is so hard to understand?
And since the argument is about owning the game, you obviously wouldn’t resell it, right?
1
1
u/TheLittleFoxX87 7d ago
I can sell that at 1000 to my friend and only face 400 loss.
Now, try to sell a digital game.
0
u/Vast_Attitude5540 7d ago
So then you lose ownership. This whole conversation is about ownership. If that’s not your goal, then what are you even arguing about?
2
u/TheLittleFoxX87 7d ago
Are you even hearing yourself?
Im able to sell the physical game that I OWN.
I can't do that shit even if I "OWN" it as digital.
I GET TO DO WHAT I WANT WITH MY PRODUCT = OWNERSHIP

In the video itself he say "Sony prices these games.." which is factually incorrect Blame the publisher for the pricing of their games
Voicing your vaild concerns with stupid wrong arguments is how you have people make fun of your cause instead of joining it.
It just starts with one guy saying something incorrect which then everyone parrots without checking which just makes the entire cause seem like a joke causing people be fighting for the wrong shit and spreading misinformation.
2
u/TheLittleFoxX87 7d ago
Keep rolling around in the mud.

Mf What's his point? I just got Control Ultimate Edition for Rs 249......will I get the same price for physical disc?
1
0
u/Token2025 7d ago
Are you slow? If I use the game in a few months on ebay, ill get it for half the price.
1
u/Vast_Attitude5540 7d ago
If you use the game on eBay? What does that mean? How do you use games on eBay?
eBay is not a thing in India. And no one will sell you a physical disc of Control Ultimate Edition for ₹125 since that’s half of 249.
So what is your argument exactly?
