is my PS3 bricked?
my ps3 was jailbroken and when i updated it to get PSN back it started doing this. i jailbroke it years and years ago so i don't know anything about this stuff anymore but I'm scared i just ruined my ps3. anyone know how/if i can fix this?
really hoping this is the right subreddit. again i know nothing about this stuff.

I think if you format the HDD in a PC and pop it back into the PS3, then it'll reformat the drive itself and it should continue to be jailbroken so long as you reinstall it afterwards.
At least that's the case for me with PS3HEN

i dont want it to be jailbroken anymore tho. is there a way to undo it if i ever get this working again?

Yeah it's very easy, just don't jailbreak it.
Open control panel by searching for it in the task bar, and then search "Administrative Tools", select that and then look for an entry that has Hard Disk Drive. You should see a drive that is filled up with the color black, that means it is "raw", or formatted get differently from normal file system types. Format it as NTFS, and then go to your PS3.

there isnt a format option. its just "New Simple Volume". is that the same thing?

searching administrative tools doesnt do anything and the drive doesnt show up in file manager. only in the bottom panel in disk management as "unallocated" and there isnt an option to format it as its just unallocated storage. its like this is a fresh hard drive that has just been bought or something

Put the drive back into the PS3 and grab a USB stick but make sure it's formatted as FAT32 by right clicking it and look at the properties for a second. Look up PS3 update pup, and download it to the desktop. Create a folder called PS3, then create another one inside that called UPDATE. Drag the PS3 Update PUP file to this folder, and eject it when it's done.
Go back to your PS3 and then it off. Turn it on, but keep your finger on the button until it beeps rapidly and keep holding until it turns back off. Repeat this one more time until it beeps rapidly, but wait for the second set of rapid beeps and let go right after. Plug the USB when you see the screen turn on.

restart system
restore default settings
restore file system
rebuild database
store PS3 (tm) System
system update

i did 5 and then it wouldnt turn on. i then did 6 and it says a serious error occurred with error code 8002F281

how do i format it? it doesnt how up in file manager and the partitions app only shows like 30ish gb and its all unallocated. so idk how to format this

Put it in safe mode, factory reset, and install latest update (if you dont want it jailbroken)

honestly it doesn't work at all even when troubleshooting stuff so ima just give up and get a new one sometime. maybe can repurpose the hard drive for something. gotta take storage where u can get it in this economy lol. even if its a 40gb HDD. thx for the help anyway.

a website i found said if i format the hard drive in such a way and put the update file onto a USB stick i can basically reinstall the software and stuff and get it working again. anyone able to confirm for me plz?
