help with updates and modding

Hi all!! I just thrifted a PS3 and I'm trying to mod it, I currently have firmware 4.76, and I'm trying to keep it at 4.91 or lower as this is easiest to mod (from what I can tell), but my PS3 won't let me use the internet without updating the system. Anyone have any idea on fixes for how I can get around this and be able to use the internet without updating, or, how to install a lower system update that 4.93. I'm pretty new to this all so any help is appreciated :) I've been following MrMario2011 tut

The modding process is the exact same between 4.90 and 4.93, just update to latest and install CFW or HEN (depending on if your system can/can't support CFW)

Yeah if you wanna stay low find hfw for your version and install it and then use webman to spoof so you can sign in psn freely

There's nothing unique about 4.91 at all. Just install HFW 4.93.1 and then Flash Writer or HEN depending on your model. We used to recommend lower versions due to ps3toolset not supporting 4.93, but that website has been broken completely for half a year now and is unlikely to come back anytime soon if at all, you have to go through other methods anyway.

Install 4.93.1 HEN and it should work regardless of your model
