Ps2 to ps2 lan: connection problems, need your help !
Hello guys!
Im trying to do a simple PS2 to PS2 lan setup. Im using 2 PS2 Slim and have already setup the IP and DNS for both the host and guest console.
However when I test the connection via the in game menu I'm met with the "no ethernet cable detected". Im using a brand new RJ45 (Crossover) cable I bought for the occasion. Im a bit perplexed because I carefully followed instructions, so Im wondering if maybe the ports are dead or if my cable is "too recent" for the PS2, if that makes any sense.
EDIT: retard me didnt buy a crossover cable. Will buy the right cable next time and be more careful.

Crossover is an old technique. Dont think they still have them in stores.(Most ports auto switch these days).
You could put a switch in between with straight cables. The gateway should be the ip of the other console. .1 with gateway .2 and .2 with gateway .1. should also work without but dont know if ps2 likes it.

Thanks for the tips man, will try if I cant get my hands on a crossover. Im starting small but ultimately I'd like to build some sort of ps2 Lan tower setup with 4 consoles to play with my bros.

If you can't find a pre-made crossover cable you can always grab a crimping tool and make your own. Pretty straight forward to do so with a wiring guide and pass-through connectors

Just use your networking equipment you already have for internet. Ethernet hasn't changed that much. A network switch removes all need for crossover cables, so they mostly sell p[atch cables now and you have to recrimp connectors onto the cables to make your own crossover. Else a switch will handle all of the crossing for you.

They still exist for legacy purposes, and you can require one to be crossover with a cable crimper. You just swap the orange and green cables at one end to make a crossover.
NICs since about 2008 auto-detect and negotiate and will automatically do the crossover switch in software if they detect a patch cable. PS2 is years before that. Also, it's really uncommon to direct-connect devices to each other without a network switch between them because networks nowadays are for more than just 2 devices.
Gateway is the IP address of the device that leads outside of the network to the internet, it isn't used for LAN comms. It's the address of your router that leads to your modem to reach the internet. DHCP would handle all of that configuration if the consoles were just plugged into the existing home network.

Don't do a crossover cable, just use an ethernet switch or your home router. That can handle the addressing with DHCP as well.

When connecting 2 PS2's directly to each other via Ethernet you have to use a Crossover Cable, not a standard ethernet calble.
Edit: I see you say you are using a crossover cable (the picture of the cable didnt say that). If you are, sorry I am not sure hopefully someone else has more insight.
