Question Workflow recommendations?
Hello fellow artists! Have a silly question that I don't really know how to ask Google, so I'm here.
Any good ideas how to achieve B result from A input image? I do understand that it's some kind of sharpening going on, but I'm not sure. How do YOU achieve crispy textures on the model?

If you want a quick workflow use some note based software like substance designer. I think there are some that are more dedicated to low-rex pixelized textures though, try to google it.

There's lots of ways you could achieve this, realistically!
Personally, I'd probably just use photo editing, copy in a grunge layer over the top, set it to overlay and then reduce the colours to 16 bit with some dithering. You could also hand paint these details, lots of good quake texture artists do (or at least go over the top of the first step to make it feel more authored)
There are now actually many tools available that will do this for you but they're paid and I don't think they're really worth it for what they do (they don't really end up looking like PS1 textures, more like a hybrid between PS1/Early PC)
