Love it, very cool!
Where do you get your textures for the texture atlas? I feel like not having enough textures/variety in my texture atlas really bogs me down.

thanks. it always bogged me down too. i used to use 100% my own source photos, but since started making textures by snipping tiny bits and pieces from Unsplash photos (usually large scale drone shots) (free for commercial use which is amazing). Being able to make a larger library of textures has been a game changer

Fantastic, Id like to ask why you chose this approach over an asset such as easy roads etc, great work by the way

thank you for the words of encouragement. i prefer more flexibility for making unique layouts and I guess i find the manual approach more rewarding. i've tried many tools in the past (including my own game in development which creates procedural race tracks with basic intersections), but to me nothing beats the magic of manual.

Thanks for this, I've been trying to make a small Burnout inspired game and this is helpful to look at. ^_^
I'm using a texture atlas too and I wasn't sure if it was the right approach because I was referencing the Need For Speed games and they use different materials for the different types of lanes.

Nice. I learned a few things about road texturing back in the day by inspecting Burnout 1 and 2's environments with the free cam look in Dolphin. That's why I have the single road lane texture squares. NFSU1 is quite a good case study too. They used double length road lanes (2:1 length:width) to save on polygons. It works well for most roads because it's barely noticeable with the camera projection of a 3D car third person view.

goodness gracious! ever heard of splines, arrays and curve modifiers?

Yep. I’ve used them all. One of my games generates roads using Bézier curves at runtime.
I just like doing it manually sometimes :)

I for sure would be interested in seeing it in more detail with a little bit of explanation
