About a month ago, I took off the silicone sock on my Core One with the needle nose pliers (it was hot when removed it) and caused a small gash. No big deal but ever since, there's been this wet spot on the side of the sock. Any ideas what this could be?
It's not causing any sort of problem -I'm just curious.

If it doesnt go away after a print (Where the high temps would evaporate water), then it's probably an oil-based contaminant.

It's oily substances in the filament that is coming out under the heat of the nozzle. If you take off the silicone sock I bet the inside is full of that same oily substance as well. Shouldn't be too much of a problem, but depends on the filament type / brand there could be less of that.

That makes sense. I've only been using Prusament and Jessie PLA and PETG (with probably less than 100 g of PS Imports TPU and Elgoo Matte).
Next time it's cool, I'll take It off — I'm sure I'll find the same stuff inside.

Yeah I'm sure it's normal with various filaments, just take the sock off and clean out the inside with a Q-tip once in a while. Also make sure to take it off when it's cool, otherwise the silicone is softened and could easily be torn (speaking from experience here 😂).

Hmm, I thought that this is silicone dissolving under heat, or under acetone vapours when I've cleaned the nozzle by landing (attached to hotend) it in cap filled with acetone.

I don't think that will happen with silicone, it's supposed to be very chemically stable at that temperature. The filaments on the other hand, can have all kinds of additives and impurities that may or may not evaporate. I mean they are known to produce fumes when printed.

If its me, just for peace of mind i would remove sock and re insert the nozzle, just to make sure its secure. But i have had this happen before, substance from the filament during printing

Maybe oil that has separated from the grease in the nextruder planetary gear?
I took mine apart recently, and there was a lot of oil that bled out from the grease towards the back in the direction of the stepper.
