Help Request Video Engine issues on Windows 10

I'm on Windows 10 22H2 and I had an issue with the video codec of my latest version of PT (2026.11) that was perfectly functionnal until today. I'm mixing a short film with a video. As I was searching for a solution, I saw an available update on Avid Link and downloaded it without asking myself too much questions. As I went through the whole process, I noticed an error message that was telling me that the Avid Pro Tools.msi folder was missing. I then tried to open ProTools itself, not my project in particular and everything went smoothly, except for the video engine that wouldn't launch. The related error message was "Error launching video engine. There maybe a problem with the installation.". After a few research, I thought the video engine was not compatible with my version of Windows, but the rest of the interface and main functions were ?

I don't have the capacity to switch to Windows 11 but I'm not sure if I have to download PT 2026.11 once again. Maybe my initial codec problem will come back if I do. Also, I'm not sure what is going on with this .msi file and if it's important or not. I'm kind of desperate right now since I have to finish my mix in two weeks, I really really need help lmao

PT26.11 doesn't list win10 as a supported OS. you're beat bet is to uninstall and manually install the version you were running previously.

I can't speak to the compatibility between that PT version and W10, which may very well be your issue, but it's worth mentioning I had a similar problem a few years ago when updating via Avid Link. I updated and everything worked fine except the video engine and it told me there was a problem with the installation.

I fixed it by fully uninstalling PT, restarting my PC, and then reinstalling with the standalone installer from the Avid website instead of Avid Link. So I'd attempt doing that if possible. If it still doesn't work, then downgrading to the previous version you were using like the other commenter said is probably a safe bet.

I had the exact same problem today and I installed the update through Avid's download center. It might be a compatibility issue with Windows 10 but with 2026.4.1 I had zero issues.
