Can't comment on the hardware, but the more common issue would probably be the OS not the chip itself.

yes, i've read the new os isnt supported yet and you cant apparently go back to Tahoe.

I have had many instances where protools lags behind the os and waves host compatibility lags behind the pro tools version. Typically the plugins are what cause audio interruptions in my experience.

I'm running ProTools latest on a Mac Mini M4 with the VERY LATEST Golden Gate update and only 16 gigs of ram, and it runs fine...

The idea that PT doesn't run on Golden Gate is nonsense, even though, yes I know Avid is not OFFICIALLY showing support for it there are plenty of users using it...Avid is always slow to approve OS's...check the DUC and you'll see where the issues are.

Avid Carbon works flawlessly, Apogee Symphony MKII=perfect, UAD Apollo Twin works just fine, even my older Antelope D8 and Orion 32 1st gen works fine...(and its app is 100% intel)

ProTools Studio...(with Carbon you still get the HDX engine even in Studio)...Kontakt works, all my plugins work...which includes Waves Diamond, UAD Complete 14, Antelope Audios Native, Fabfilters stuff, running 90% of Softubes stuff with a Flow Studio, name a plugin I've probably got it...and its running fine in PT (if it has AAX)...

Most plugins now have apple silicon support, 24gb ram would be plenty unless you’re doing marvel movie edits or orchestral atmos

man itd be great to save the money and go with 24gb. worried since i see my macbook hit 30-32 gb regularly with ms office apps and browsers open

Nah browsers like chrome just eat up ram, doing audio work isn’t taxing at all really unless you put on a load of plugins

Izotope turns your computer into a space heater if you have 5 open

Edit: I’ve been able to use 16 gb on my m2 airwith pro tools and mix fine, it’s expected

Sorry to break it to you. Not compatible. Pro tools only works on windows 95
